In the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Fl, the establishment media launched a widespread campaign against supporters of the 2nd amendment. As with other mass shootings, they are using the tragedy to push their gun control agenda. However, this time it appears they are going full throttle with their disinformation initiative.
They have placed the blame for the shooting on the National Rifle Association, Republican lawmakers, and pretty much anyone who doesn’t believe that more legislation will prevent mass shootings. To them, we are vile monsters who don’t care about dead children.
So far, there are three ways the media is deceiving the public into supporting their anti-2nd amendment agenda.
Trump Wants To Arm All Teachers
In a meeting with the survivors of the Parkland shooting, President Donald Trump discussed strategies that could be used to prevent more deaths at the hands of mass shooters. Among them, he brought up the idea of arming teachers.
“So let’s say you had 20% of your teaching force because that’s pretty much the number — and you said it — an attack has lasted, on average, about three minutes,” he said. “It takes five to eight minutes for responders, for the police, to come in. So the attack is over. If you had a teacher with — who was adept at firearms, they could very well end the attack very quickly.”
True to form, CNN and NBC ran articles implying that the president wants to arm all teachers. CNN published pieces with titles like “Trump suggests arming teachers as a solution to increase school safety,” and “Trump’s suggestion to arm teachers draws criticism.”
NBC followed suit with articles with titles such as “Trump defends arming teachers, applauds NRA,” and “Trump’s plan to arm teachers like me makes no sense for safety in schools.” President Trump responded to the misleading headlines on Twitter:
“I never said ‘give teachers guns’ like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC. What I said was to look at the possibility of giving ‘concealed guns to gun adept teachers with military or special training experience — only the best,”
Then, he repeated the remarks he made at his meeting with the Parkland survivors. He tweeted:
“20% of teachers, a lot, would now be able to immediately fire back if a savage sicko came to a school with bad intentions. Highly trained teachers would also serve as a deterrent to the cowards that do this. Far more assets at much less cost than guards. A ‘gun free’ school is a magnet for bad people. ATTACKS WOULD END!”
To be fair, in the body of these articles, both CNN and NBC admit that Trump stated that he suggested arming only 20% of teachers. However, journalists know that most readers will not read past the headline. Indeed, studies have shown that 80% of people do not read the article after seeing the headline. Misleading headlines such as these are useful to news organizations who wish to propagate a particular narrative.
Chris Cuomo Tweets Fake Story About Gun Purchases
Earlier in the week, CNN’s Chris Cuomo retweeted a story detailing the experience of a 20-year old who claimed he was able to buy an AR-15 in five minutes with an expired ID.” The story was published in 2015, but after the shooting, it went viral.
It was all a lie.
The writer claims that it only took seconds for the salesman at the gun store to start selling him the weapon. He states that if he had “stayed for maybe three minutes longer to fill out less paperwork than I did for the hiring process at my school’s bookstore, I would’ve driven home with an AR-15.”
He also used the fake headline strategy to promote a false narrative. He never bought the gun. He never even got to the background check process. He left the store before filling out the appropriate paperwork. If he had, it would have taken far longer than five minutes to purchase the weapon.
This lie also spread during CNN’s gun control town hall in which survivors of the attack were allowed to address politicians and experts on both sides of the argument. One of the students repeated the false story, repeating the author’s claim that he was able to buy an AR-15 in five minutes. Nobody at CNN corrected him.
CNN Stacked The Deck At Their Town Hall
When CNN put on their town hall last week, their agenda was clear: promote anti-gun legislation while demonizing those who are pro 2nd amendment. The panel was stacked with individuals who support the implementation of more gun control laws. The audience was primarily an anti-gun crowd.
Those who were on the side that supported the 2nd amendment were subjected to some of the worst vitriol one can experience on a news program. One of the students stated that it was hard to look at Florida Senator Marco Rubio “without looking down the barrel of an AR-15.” NRA Spokeswoman Dana Loesch was repeatedly shouted down and called a murderer.
However, the treatment of conservatives on the panel paled in comparison to the bias shown by CNN. Colton Haab, one of the survivors of the shooting who heroically shielded students from gunfire, stated that the news organization wanted to script his comments. Why? Because he favors improved security in school.
Haab stated that CNN told him that he needed to “stick to the script.” According to the student, the network wanted to censor his remarks. “What had happened was four days ago I had gotten contacted by a lady named Carrie Stevenson from CNN,” he said. “She had asked me originally to just write a speech, it was going to be at the town hall at the BB&T Center, so I agreed, I felt like it would be the right thing to do.”
It was when the date for the event got closer that Stevenson decided to write a question for him. Apparently, they did not want to hear any views that conflicted with their ideas. However, Haab wasn’t the only one.
Andrew Klein, whose daughter survived the attack, was interviewed by CNN. He stated that one of their producers told him that they wanted to speak with individuals who would “espouse a certain narrative which was taking the tragedy and turning it into a policy debate.
What a shocker.
The Media’s Constant Deceptions On Guns
The establishment media has refused to give an honest take on the issue of mass shootings. While claiming to be objective, they skew the narrative in a way that furthers their agenda. CNN’s town hall is a prime example of how they attempt to manipulate their viewers into embracing gun control legislation.
This story is nothing new. The legacy media has been biased for decades. The question is: When will the American public decide that we’ve had enough?
