Welcome to the next installment of “Lunacy on the Left” where Liberty Nation highlights the published comments and arguments made from the left-wing point of view on the issues of the day. Each week, we will showcase the opinions of the leftist establishment media outlets, Democratic politicians, and other prominent figures on the left. In short, we’re going to wade through the morass of leftist lunacy, so you don’t have to.
This week, we saw many different examples of leftist lunacy in the news. The Democrats’ new star, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, made a series of gaffes that showcased the ignorance of many left-wingers when it comes to socialism. A left-leaning organization attempted to smear Brett Kavanaugh — President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court with #MeToo-style accusations. A Los Angeles-based business owner was ostracized for his pro-Trump views. Last, but not least, The New York Times revealed their underlying homophobia.
It’s been an interesting week, for sure.
The Left Tries To #MeToo Judge Kavanaugh
The left mobilized to oppose President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee before they even knew who he had chosen. Once he announced Kavanaugh’s nomination, they went into a frenzy, claiming that the new nominee would roll back Roe v. Wade and prevent Trump from being indicted for nonexistent crimes. Since they realized that their hysteria would not make a difference, they decided to take a new course of action: False claims regarding sexual harassment.
Brett KavanaughUltraViolet, a far-left group that is affiliated with the #MeToo movement, claims that Kavanaugh is guilty of covering up sexual harassment. The Supreme Court nominee previously worked under 9th U.S. Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski from 1990 to 1991. Judge Kozinski’s office had a long history of being a toxic and dangerous environment for women,” said Karin Roland, the chief campaigns officer for the group. “The American public deserves to know what Kavanaugh saw and heard, and if he did witness or hear about any harassment, what he did or could have done to report it.”
Kozinski resigned last December because 15 women accused him of sexually harassing them. UltraViolet contends that Kavanaugh knew about his former boss’ conduct and did nothing. Of course, they have provided no evidence that Kavanaugh knew anything about the harassment. Unfortunately for UltraViolet, several people have stepped forward to defend Kavanaugh.
A letter signed by 18 women who previously worked for Kavanaugh was sent to the Judiciary Committee to vouch for him. “In our view, the Judge has been one of the strongest advocates in the federal judiciary for women lawyers,” the letter said. They also indicated that the Supreme Court nominee hired more women than men as law clerks, and helped 21 women obtain clerkships at the Supreme Court.
Well, it looks like this tactic isn’t going to work out too well for the left.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Has A Bad Week
Alexandria Ocasio-CortezAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the left’s new superstar, had a difficult week. In an interview with Margaret Hoover on PBS’s “Firing Line,” she made two major mistakes. First, she slammed Israel as being occupiers of Palestine. When pressed on the matter, she admitted that she was not familiar with the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. It’s always a bad idea to comment on this conflict when you think that Palestine is a sovereign nation, isn’t it?
Ocasio-Cortez also made a massive gaffe when she claimed that the low unemployment rate was actually a negative sign. She erroneously claimed that the reason unemployment has decreased is “because everyone has two jobs.” She also stated that “people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their kids.”
If Ocasio-Cortez represents the new face of the Democratic Party, then it appears they are in deep trouble.
Jewish Immigrant Targeted For Pro-Trump Views
The Boyle Heights Chamber of Commerce recently rescinded the membership of Asher Shalom, the owner of a kosher cafe. Why? Because he is a Trump supporter and is outspoken in his opposition to illegal immigration.
A leftist group called “Defend Boyle Heights” targeted Shalom on social media, urging people to boycott his restaurant. “We have come to learn that the owner of [Asher Caffe & Lounge] is an out and proud xenophobe and Trump supporter,” they wrote in a post on Facebook. “He is also part of the #GentryClass trying to bring more alcohol into the community.”
When the Chamber of Commerce discovered the calls to boycott Shalom’s cafe, they revoked his membership and boycotted the restaurant’s grand opening that they had committed to attending. Jennifer Lahoda, the president of the Chamber, claimed that they did not take this action because of Shalom’s support for President Trump, but because of “public statements he made regarding immigrants that are not in line with the chamber’s values and objectives.”
About 30 protesters showed up at the grand opening and harassed customers as they entered the restaurant. They also threw feces at the store while they demonstrated. Ironically enough, Shalom immigrated to the United States about 30 years ago — legally. He also employs 65 immigrants. Unfortunately, to the left, there is no difference between an illegal immigrant and one who enters the country legally.
The New York Times Publishes Homophobic Video
The New York Times recently published a video that elicited harsh criticism from both the left and the right. In the wake of President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Times put out an animated video depicting both leaders as homosexual lovers.
Depicting Trump and Putin as lovers is a common trope among critics of the Trump administration. It’s a part of their effort to promote the Russia collusion narrative. In the article accompanying the video, the author writes: “Donald Trump’s not-so-secret admiration for Vladimir Putin plays out in a teenager’s bedrooms, where the fantasies of this forbidden romance come to life.”
Unfortunately for the Gray Lady, their readers didn’t see their video in the same light. “This isn’t just intensely stupid it’s homophobic as all hell,” said Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Sims, who is gay, tweeted. “What on Earth makes you think that equating the love that millions of people across the planet feel for one another to the unconscionably criminal relationship between these two is OK?!? Truly, please explain.”
Phillip Picardi, a Condé Nast executive who is also gay, tweeted: It is implying that being gay is an insult for both of these men. It implies that being gay would emasculate them.”
Well, that plan backfired!
It looks like the left has had yet another bad week. Their Trump Derangement Syndrome continues to make them engage in over-the-top behavior in response to the president and his supporters. For some reason, they believe that embracing a far-left ideology, using false #MeToo accusations, throwing feces at a store, and creating homophobic videos will help them regain their power. Unfortunately for them, they will only succeed in getting President Trump a second term.
