For all their whining and caterwauling about “Orange Man Bad,” the Republican defectors at the Lincoln Project – a group of disgruntled NeverTrumpers – didn’t quite have the impact on the 2020 elections they had hoped for. The organization’s mission was to oust President Donald Trump and flip the Senate blue through the use of strategically placed anti-Trump advertisements. However, a closer examination shows that they weren’t responsible for moving the needle much, if at all.

A Lot of Money Spent – for Nothing

The Lincoln Project targeted key Senate races in 2020 and spent nearly $12 million to support Democratic Party candidates. The Washington Free Beacon noted that: “[I]n addition to trolling President Donald Trump by running ads in Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Project bros also targeted seven U.S. Senate races. Media outlets published ‘exclusive’ reports about the group’s ad campaigns as if they mattered.”

Members of the group incessantly boasted about how much money they were pouring into getting rid of Trump and handing over the Senate to the Democrats. They went after Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Steve Daines (R-MT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).

Want to know what these seven senators have in common? All of them won their elections despite the best efforts of the NeverTrump neocons.

“The Lincoln Project spent a total of $2.4 million trying to unseat Lindsey Graham, who ended up winning by more than 10 percentage points. The group’s track record in other key Senate races was just as embarrassing. In every state where the Lincoln Project spent at least $200,000, the Republican candidate won.”

Dems Give No Refuge for GOP Never-Trumpers

Throughout the course of the 2020 election season, the Lincoln Project cozied up to the Democrats since they appeared to have a common goal: Defeat Trump and the big bad Republicans. But now it seems the NeverTrumpers are getting a rude awakening. The Democrats, especially the far-left progressive crowd, want nothing to do with disaffected political operatives.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) savaged the Lincoln Project on Twitter, suggesting that the group was “in scam territory,” and claiming that they didn’t change many minds on the right. She said that they should “do the right thing … and publicly pledge to give a lot of their fundraising to the people who actually made a big difference.”

Imagine that.

The Lincoln Project actually believed they could take credit for Biden’s supposed “victory” instead of the black and Latino voters who did the work on the ground to get their candidate elected. It is incredible that they thought they would be welcomed by the left.

Michael Steele

Even more hilarious is the fact that the members of the Lincoln Project believe that they can come crawling back to the GOP after having lambasted party loyalists while siding with the Marxist crowd. Disgraced former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele made an appearance on MSNBC, where he claimed that NeverTrumpers could help to “resurrect” the Republican Party.

“So Lincoln Project and other Republicans and former Republicans out there will continue the work of trying to resolve internally and resurrect the party in a way that it can become a governing majority in the future,” Steele said, with an incredible lack of self-awareness.

At this point, the Lincoln Project types made their choice. These people, who were key members of the Republican establishment that were sent running when President Trump was elected in 2016, have become nothing more than relics of a bygone era. They are the neocons that most on the right shun. These are the people who refused to push for actual conservative solutions when they were in power. They wanted to take their ball and go home after Trump was elected. Now, it appears that the right is telling them that they can stay there.
