Johnson To Rely On Democrat Support For Ukraine Aid

This is not the way to keep grumbling conservatives in his coalition happy. “House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will lean heavily on Democrats to move a series of bills in the coming days providing aid to Ukraine, Israel and other democratic allies overseas – a strategy that acknowledges the nuances of governing in a divided Washington but also heightens the risk of his removal by disgruntled conservatives,” The Hill reports. “The backlash means the success of the legislation hinges on the votes of Democrats – not only on the final bills when they hit the floor, but on the procedural resolutions that will get them there,” the news site states.

‘Sure Would Seem Likely’: “The dynamic was made crystal clear on Wednesday, when Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) announced that he and Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Chip Roy (R-TX) – the three most hardline members of the House Rules Committee – would oppose the rule sending Johnson’s bills to the House floor. Roy told reporters it ‘sure would seem likely at this point’ that Democrats will need to help pass the rule out of committee.” Related: Ukraine with nowhere left to go…

Senate GOP: Dems Will Rue Spiking Mayorkas Impeachment

The voters will have the final say on the matter, Republicans assert. “Republicans on Wednesday warned that vulnerable Senate Democrats would be punished in the upcoming November general election for their votes to kill the impeachment trial of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas,” Fox News reports. “‘Every Democrat will pay a heavy price in November for willfully refusing to end this border crisis,’ said Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) in a statement following the impeachment trial proceedings,” the network relates.

Come Back to Haunt Them? “Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) proposed points of order after senators were sworn in as jurors to deem both of the House-passed articles of impeachment unconstitutional. Votes on the points of order were along party lines, with all Democrats agreeing that both articles were in fact unconstitutional. This included all five of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents: Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI); Jon Tester (D-MT); Sherrod Brown (D-OH); Bob Casey (D-PA.); and Jacky Rosen, (D-NV).” Related: Schumer opens a can of worms with Mayorkas impeachment dismissal …

Whistleblower: ‘There Is No Safety Culture at Boeing’

Frightening words for American air travelers on Capitol Hill. “Boeing whistleblowers testified on Capitol Hill Wednesday, alleging that the aviation giant prioritized profits over safety and accusing it of discouraging employees from raising concerns about the company’s manufacturing practices,” CBS News reports. “Sam Salehpour, a quality engineer at Boeing, said in a prepared statement that Boeing’s emphasis on rapid production undermined its commitment to safety, claiming that managers are encouraged to overlook ‘significant defects’ in the company’s aircraft,” the network details.

‘Marginalized, Threatened and Worse’: “‘Despite what Boeing officials state publicly, there is no safety culture at Boeing, and employees like me who speak up about defects with its production activities and lack of quality control are ignored, marginalized, threatened, sidelined and worse,’ Salehpour told members of an investigative panel of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.”

NPR Editor Who Slammed Leftist Bias Resigns

More negative public attention for taxpayer-supported NPR. “Veteran National Public Radio editor and reporter Uri Berliner resigned from the broadcaster Wednesday after being suspended without pay for publishing a lengthy essay calling out the networks’ innate left-wing bias,” Breitbart reports. “‘I am resigning from NPR, a great American institution where I have worked for 25 years,” Berliner wrote in a post on X. “I respect the integrity of my colleagues and wish for NPR to thrive and do important journalism. But I cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new CEO whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite in my Free Press essay.”

Pronounced Tilt: “Berliner, in an op-ed published April 9, wrote that the rise of advocacy at NPR ‘took off’ with the election of former President Donald Trump in 2016,” Breitbart notes. “The news veteran said he could count 87 registered Democrats in editorial positions but zero Republicans in the same positions in its Washington, DC, headquarters.” Related: New NPR boss writes edgy X posts as she pushes online censorship…

Two Air Canada Staffers Helped Pull Off $22.5M Heist

It brings back memories of the infamous Lufthansa robbery at New York’s Kennedy Airport in the 1970s. “Two men who worked for Air Canada allegedly played key roles in the theft of some $22.5 million in gold and cash from Toronto Pearson International Airport last spring, police say,” the CBC reports. “At a news conference Wednesday, Peel Regional Police said their joint investigation with the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has led to multiple arrests and 19 charges, as well as the interception of a ‘large quantity of firearms’ destined for Canada,” the state broadcaster writes.

Inside Job: “One of those employees, Parmpal Sidhu, a 54-year-old man from Brampton, Ont., who worked in the warehouse, has been arrested and charged with theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offense. Meanwhile, a Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Simran Preet Panesar, 31, also from Brampton. Lead investigator Det.-Sgt. Mike Mavity said Panesar worked as a manager and led police on ‘a tour’ of the cargo facility after the theft, then resigned from Air Canada last summer.” Related: Justin Trudeau’s Canada helps Mexicans cross the northern border…
