Hamas militants have fired dozens of rockets into Israel in response to riots at a contested Holy site. The Israeli military has responded with rockets of their own.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the group had crossed a “red line.” “We will not tolerate an attack on our territory, in our capital, on our citizens and soldiers Whoever attacks us will pay a heavy price.” Netanyahu’s words were echoed by Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus who warned that “We see this as a very severe attack on Israel, an attack that will not go unanswered,” adding that Israel planned to deliver a ”severe blow.”
Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas’ military wing, said the rocket attack on Jerusalem was a response to what he said were Israeli “crimes and aggression.” “This is a message the enemy has to understand well,” he said and threatened more attacks should the Israeli military try to re-enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound or continue with planned evictions.
