Well, that didn’t take long. On Tuesday president Donald Trump announced that the United States would be pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal. True to form, the left had a total breakdown.
Left-wing politicians and their allies in the establishment media quickly began issuing harsh criticisms of the president’s decision. Many claimed that the president’s rejection of the Iran deal was indicative of the evil Republicans Party’s desire to go to war with the rogue nation.
Others believed that Trump’s announcement was motivated by personal animus against former President Barack Obama. They eschewed the very idea that the president – as well as many Americans – truly believed that the nuclear deal was a horrible agreement that would do nothing to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
The Media’s Reaction to the Pullout
The left-wing news media, desperate to protect Obama’s legacy, came out in full force to condemn President Trump for withdrawing the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). As usual, their reactions were more dramatic than Cory Booker screaming about gay sex at a confirmation hearing.
CNN published a piece, titled “Everything that scrapping the Iran deal says about Donald Trump.” In the article, they claim that the president’s actions don’t just represent bad policy – they give the American public a glimpse into Trump’s very soul. “It also opened a new window into Trump’s political soul, showing his willingness to unleash the kind of chaos abroad he has fomented at home.”
You can’t make this stuff up, folks. Here’s an inconvenient truth for CNN: One of the reasons Americans elected Trump was because he promised to pull out of the ridiculous Iran nuclear deal.
Later in the piece, the pearl-clutching writer at CNN stated that Trump rejected the deal because of his “ravenous desire to eradicate President Barack Obama from the history books.” Yes, that’s right CNN. President Trump thinks that pulling out of an agreement that is harmful to the United States will make future Americans forget that Obama was our first black president.
Not to be outdone, The New York Times joined in. In a piece titled “Trump on the Iran Deal: Simple Vandalism,” they make the same claim as CNN. They argue that Trump is vandalizing the Iran nuclear deal like a teenage gang member spray painting graffiti on the wall of a liquor store because he hates Obama. They write, “The reason for Trump’s decision seems obvious: The deal was President Obama’s.”
Last, but most certainly not least, The Washington Post also slammed the president in an article titled “Trump axes the Iran deal and creates a new crisis.” In their version, WaPo argues that Trump will not be able to craft a more effective deal than Obama’s.
“In his announcement, Trump seemed to suggest he would be open to a new phase of diplomacy with Iran. But it’s hard to see what that would entail or how he could achieve a better result than Obama, whose diplomats cobbled together a multilateral program of sanctions that brought Tehran to the table.”
Now, Trump Must Deliver
The Washington Post wasn’t completely wrong in wondering what happens after the United States withdraws from the Iran deal. After all, we can’t afford to return to the status quo maintained by previous administrations. However, the president has shown that his unconventional approach can get results.
While the left would rather take a hot bath in battery acid before they admit it, the president’s handling of the North Korea situation seems to have produced unexpected results. It’s not likely that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un would have been willing to come to the negotiating table if President Trump had not taken a different approach than his predecessors. Indeed, the chances of Pyongyang releasing American prisoners were slim to none.
This administration has shown that they can make headway where others couldn’t. However, the situation with Iran won’t be an easy one to fix. Hopefully, his tougher approach will help the president succeed where others have failed.
