Welcome to the “Lunacy on the Left” column where Liberty Nation highlights the published comments and arguments made from the left-wing point of view on the issues of the day. Each week, we will showcase the opinions of the leftist establishment media outlets, Democratic politicians, and other prominent figures on the left. In short, we wade through the morass of leftist lunacy, so you don’t have to.
Last week was rather tumultuous in the political realm. There was a plea deal, a guilty verdict, and more fake news than you could imagine. However, several stories flew under the radar. Far leftist group Antifa was up to their usual violent antics, but this time, they made a humiliating mistake. A progressive church inserted white supremacy into the gospels. Lastly, the left slams President Trump for deporting a Nazi. No really, they actually portrayed the deportation of a war criminal as a bad thing. Let’s dive in.
Antifa Beats Up A Bernie Sanders Supporter
Last week, a video surfaced of a violent demonstration led by far-left group Antifa in Portland, Oregon, against a rally being held by the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer. The footage showed members of the group assaulting a man carrying an American flag. One of the members hit the man on the back of the head with a club, which left him bleeding on the ground.
Apparently, Antifa believed that the man was part of a white supremacist group. Why? Because he was carrying the American flag, and only raging bigots would dare to do such a thing. Unfortunately, they were wrong.
The flag-wielding man was actually Paul Welch, a supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. In an interview with The Oregonian Welch stated that he wanted to show that Americans on the right are not the only patriots. “I was just protesting outsiders coming here for their tacitly fascist event,” Welch said.
The activist went on to state that he was not part of either group. “I had felt like showing that a liberal, free Portland — or any major city, really — is much more American and much more numerous and strong than any of these interloping groups,” he said.
Jesus Christ Was Killed By “White Supremacy”

Last week, Now This News posted a video on Twitter in which they cover a progressive church that has a rather unorthodox way of holding services. Christopher Van Hall, the pastor of Greater Purpose church, said: “What would it look like to be a church that looked like the movement that Jesus started and not like the church that we know in America today?”
Doesn’t sound so bad, does it? But wait! There’s more!
The church — which holds its services in an old bookstore — serves beer during its gatherings and promotes environmentalism, intersectionality, and social justice. “We are open and affirm LGBTQ,” he said. “We are feminists, and I believe Jesus was too. We are environmentalists, which I believe that’s the original mandate of the children of God to take care of the planet that we all know and enjoy.”
Then, the pastor expressed a theological truth that Bible scholars have missed throughout millennia. Jesus was “a person of color that was killed by white supremacy.” That’s right. Jesus — a racial minority — was crucified by raging white supremacists.
It appears that Van Hess might have watched too many movies — the Roman empire was spread out across the middles east and northern Africa — its citizens and government were made of people of a wide variety of races. It’s unlikely that Jesus’ execution was the result of white supremacy. Indeed, the gospels state that the Pharisees pressured the Roman government to kill Jesus. But what did Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John know? It’s not like there were there, right?
Deporting A War Criminal
Last week, agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported Jakiw Palij, a 95-year-old former Nazi who served as a guard at the Trawnicki concentration camp in Poland. The order for his deportation was originally given in 2004 after he was discovered, but previous administrations failed to remove him from the country.
Jakiw PalijYou would think that Palij’s deportation would be common ground on which Americans of all political stripes could agree, right? Not quite. Some on the far-left were incensed that the president would take such an action.
Joe Bernstein, a reporter for BuzzFeed, tweeted his disgust at the president’s decision. “My father denaturalized and deported Nazis for a living, and he didn’t need a xenophobic goon squad to do it,” he tweeted. “The men and women of OSI would be disgusted by using deportations as a political stunt.”
Ouch. But Bernstein wasn’t the only one who castigated the Trump administration. Journalist Jonathan M. Katz also made his feelings known on Twitter:
“Palij’s deportation was ordered in 2004, the hold-up had to do with him being stateless, and past admins removed dozens of original Nazis, all of whom are now very old or dead.”
Makes sense right? The Trump administration’s deportation of Palij shouldn’t be lauded because previous administrations did it too. Brilliant logic, Mr. Katz.
Not to be outdone, Jezebel magazine — a far-left publication — lambasted the president, claiming that he only deported the former Nazi to protect ICE. They wrote:
“The Trump administration quickly used it as an opportunity to claim some kind of moral high ground for an agency that has targeted immigrants at courthouses and en route to hospitals, overseen a staggering increase in arrests while often using deceptive tactics, and exposed more than 1,000 immigrants to abuse while detained”
Put simply; the left’s reacted to ICE deporting a Nazi by arguing for the abolition of the agency. Perhaps they would approve of ICE if they imported Nazis into the U.S. instead of removing them? Just a thought.
