It appears that CNN has messed up again.
Recently, the network reported that President Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen was going to tell investigators the president knew about the infamous meeting in which Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer. It was going to be the bombshell of the year.
But there was one problem: It was completely false.
Apparently, Lanny Davis – Cohen’s lawyer – is to blame. It appears he may have misled the news outlet in confirming the details of this false story.
Lanny Admits to Fibbing
Recently, Lanny Davis admitted that he was behind an erroneous CNN report about the Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russian lawyer Natalya Veselnitskaya.
In July, CNN reported that Cohen intended to tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller that President Trump knew about the meeting. Davis gave the details as an anonymous source, as well as confirming the story to the New York Post, also as an unidentified source. It’s now been revealed, however, that he recently admitted Cohen had no information that would confirm when the president found out about the meeting.
Shedding his anonymous status, Davis has apologized for providing misleading information. “I regret that I wasn’t clear enough to The Post,” he said. “I’m sorry that I left that impression. I wasn’t at the meeting. The only person who could confirm that information is my client.”
Davis’ statement begs the question: Well Lanny, why didn’t you just confirm this information with Mr. Cohen before telling CNN it was true? Apparently, he didn’t think it was important to verify a story that could have a tremendous impact on the Trump administration.
Previously, Cohen testified under oath that the president did not know about the Trump Tower meeting before it happened. This debunks the CNN report claiming that Cohen was with Trump when Donald Trump Jr. informed him of the upcoming rendezvous.
Is Anyone Surprised?
So CNN published a false story based on information from an anonymous source? What a shocker! It’s almost like they were so eager to put out a story that cast the Trump administration in a bad light that they didn’t even bother to determine the veracity of the information they were given. How curious!
Here’s the bottom line: This type of story is par for the course when you look at the reporting of the establishment media since Trump first announced his candidacy. News outlets have routinely published misleading stories designed to smear the president and his supporters.
This latest “mishap” on the part of CNN once again reveals the fact that they are nothing more than activists disguised as journalists. It’s this type of reporting that has earned them the moniker “fake news.” It appears that they still have much to learn when it comes to being a respected news organization.
