So what if Russia didn’t hack the Democratic National Committee?
If WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange gets his way, we might be facing that question sooner than we think. The Daily Caller reported that the WikiLeaks founder has offered to provide President Donald Trump with proof that the Russians did not hack the Democratic National Committee or leak information to Assange’s organization. But there’s another question.
What if President Trump had no idea that Assange was making this offer? What if there were individuals who were working to make sure that the president doesn’t find out that evidence disproving the Russiagate narrative might exist?
Yes, it all sounds like an episode of House of Cards, but according to The Daily Caller and Representative Dana Rohrabacher, that’s exactly what’s happening.
Julian Assange’s Offer To President Trump
Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) told The Daily Caller that Assange said he possessed information showing that Russia was not behind the hacking of Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails during the election last year. After WikiLeaks released the content of the leaked emails, Assange repeatedly claimed that the Russians were not the source of the information, but the intelligence community has contradicted his statements.
Now, it seems the WikiLeaks founder may be willing to provide information that proves that Russia did not hack the DNC. Of course, Assange is not offering this evidence out of the goodness of his own heart. The quid pro quo would be a pardon for releasing classified information.
The WikiLeaks founder has always stated that he would not reveal one of his sources. However, Rohrabacher has stated that Assange wants his freedom. He said that Assange “wants to get out of the Ecuadorian embassy.”
In 2012, Assange sought asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy after he was charged with sexual assault in Sweden. The charges have since been dropped, but he has not been able to leave the compound because the U.S. is still investigating him for releasing confidential material
The Effort To Hide Assange’s Offer
So what has President Trump said about the offer? Not a thing. It appears that Trump may not even know that Assange has offered to make a deal with him. Representative Rohrabacher believes that individuals in the administration are preventing the president from learning about Assange’s offer.
When a reporter asked President Trump about Assange, he said he had “never heard” of a potential agreement with the WikiLeaks founder. Rohrabacher told The Daily Caller:
“I think the president’s answer indicates that there is a wall around him that is being created by people who do not want to expose this fraud that there was collusion between our intelligence community and the leaders of the Democratic Party.”
It appears that Trump’s Chief of Staff John Kelly might be in on the act as well. Rohrabacher stated that he spoke with Kelly about two weeks ago about Assange’s offer. According to the Wall Street Journal, Kelly asked the congressman to “bring the information to the intelligence community.” It seems that Rohrabacher smells a rat:
“This would have to be a cooperative effort between his own staff and the leadership in the intelligence communities to try to prevent the president from making the decision as to whether or not he wants to take the steps necessary to expose this horrendous lie that was shoved down the American people’s throats so incredibly earlier this year.”
While other media outlets have discussed the potential agreement with the WikiLeaks founder, The Daily Caller has previously reported that Kelly is “blocking certain news articles from reaching the president’s desk.” According to Rohrabacher, this is normal, “This happens in every administration, and it’s a great disservice to the president.”
He also stated that if Trump knew about Assange’s offer, he would accept it:
“I am confident that if the president is permitted to know that this avenue is open to him to debunk the horrible lie that was told to the American people about him stealing the election with the help of the Russians… that I think the president will accept it if he’s permitted to know.”
What If It’s True?
The reality is that if Assange has something to offer, President Trump will eventually hear about it. So what will it mean if the president takes Assange up on his offer?
For starters, the Russiagate narrative would be destroyed overnight, Julian Assange would become a free man, and the establishment media would issue a tearful, heartfelt apology for wasting our time with their false collusion narrative. Just kidding about that last part.
Naturally, the inevitable question will be “if the Russians didn’t do it, who did?” Was it individuals in the intelligence community, with whom the president has publicly feuded? There are plenty of people in our various agencies that are still loyal to former President Obama.
Or perhaps it was officials serving in the DNC? Maybe they grew weary of the committee’s corruption when it came to pushing Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders.
Then, there’s always the Deep State — which means it could be individuals from the DNC, intelligence community, and elsewhere. We already know that there are people in different areas of government and society who have a vested interest in undermining Trump’s presidency.
Of course, this whole thing could be a nothingburger. What if Assange really doesn’t have evidence that would exonerate Russia? While it is unlikely that he would make such an offer if he couldn’t deliver, it’s always possible. Either way, it appears there might be some new developments in the ongoing Russia saga in the near future.
