Convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead in his jail cell in Lower Manhattan. So far, all reports indicate that he committed suicide by hanging while awaiting disposition of his federal criminal charges. There will no doubt be a lot of questions asked to which very few answers will likely be given.
The Obvious Question
The first question on most people’s lips will be “was he suicided?” Mr. Epstein was the keeper of secrets to many very powerful people, including, and especially, Bill Clinton. On July 23, Epstein was placed on suicide watch after he was found unconscious in his cell with injuries to his neck; it is still unknown whether they were self-inflicted or made by another prisoner. Quite how a man who was on suicide watch could successfully manage to commit suicide is probably the first question to be ignored.
As documents have been coming out that apparently implicate high-powered men from around the world, including former presidents and princes, what will happen to the investigation? There are surely large sighs of relief going around the world that certain names will not be dragged through the courts. Convicted of procuring for prostitution a girl below age 18 in Florida in 2008, Epstein was to be tried on federal charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to traffic minors for sex. He was denied bail and forced to be incarcerated while awaiting trial until sometime next summer.
No Time for Conspiracy
Was this the last desperate act of a man who knew he would spend the rest of his life in prison and vilified by the world? Early reports suggest that this was the case. However, when a man who was on suicide watch, with potentially damaging testimony against very powerful people, ends up dead, investigators must surely look into whether he was murdered. Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead.
