Patriots are under fire this July 4, but perhaps that is not so dissimilar from the first Independence Day. In 1776, America’s founding patriots went up against the mighty hand of the establishment, were willing to sever ties with the powerful elite, and boldly moved forward despite those who would not stand with them. It was a tumultuous time, but the patriots forged ahead.
Sound familiar?
Fast-forward a few centuries, and one can easily spot the similarities: The establishment media demonizes patriots by banning their voices from the public square. Patriotic ideology is considered racist, and the language of liberty is said to incite violence. The powerful elite put people like retired U.S. Army Lt. General Michael Flynn in their crosshairs and won’t let go until they’ve wrung a guilty plea out of them. Public and private persecution awaits those who refuse to go along with the radical leftist agenda.
Independence Takes Courage
It’s easy to forget that not everybody was ready to strike the match that lit the Revolutionary War. Of the 13 colonies that participated in the Continental Congress, only nine voted to adopt Thomas Jefferson’s edgy Declaration. Pennsylvania and South Carolina were so apprehensive they voted no. New York and Delaware were squeamish about severing ties with England and voted to abstain. Were the people of these four colonies cowards and sissies, or were they merely ideological pragmatists annoyed by Jefferson’s bombast?
What they lacked in unanimity, they made up for in passion. President of the Continental Congress, John Hancock, was said to have put ink to pen with flamboyance on purpose, quipping, “King George can read that without spectacles.” Lest we forget, America’s Independence is not celebrated on the day of England’s defeat, but, as Liberty Nation’s Graham Noble wrote, “at a time and place of America’s choosing.” Undaunted by the task that lay ahead, the fearless and valorous first patriots stood their ground in the face of overwhelming military superiority. That independence and liberty would be established upon voicing it so – instead of waiting for it to be granted – is nothing less than astounding.
In 21st century America, another struggle for independence rages; the very rights so profoundly held and purchased at such a high price back in 1776 and the years that followed are once again spinning in a centrifuge of conflict. The right to speak one’s mind, to move about freely, to bear arms, to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” are more than at risk – they are being confiscated daily by anarchists, socialists, and self-proclaimed Marxists who hold positions of power in politics and much of the Fourth Estate.
Liberty in 2020 America is being fought for at every turn by a small band of ardent, fiery patriots woven of the same fiber as our Revolutionary War ancestors. As Liberty Nation’s Tim Donner averred, “When the colonists revolted, they knew not what would happen in the aftermath. But they damn sure knew what they needed to do – organize, revolt, tear down the system. And consider the consequences later.”
Tear down the system. Drain the Swamp. This is the distinct and demanding voice of today’s American patriot that is increasing in volume and intensity. Just a few years ago, LN’s Graham Noble lamented:
“The birth of the United States of America was a unique, wondrous and monumental feat of human will and endeavor, the likes of which had not been seen before and may never be seen again: The revolution against unjust rule; the proclamation of freedom; the battles for independence; the triumph and the forming of a unique system of government. All of this within the span of some sixteen years is astounding.
Such a nation is deserving of a people more determined to restore – and defend – the principles, the prized liberties, and independent spirit which set in motion this glorious journey.”
Who could have imagined that the tyranny of the powerful and elite would raise up such a people so rapidly? This is the uprising of true patriots who are determined not to live under the yoke of leftist rules and ideology that runs roughshod over liberty and freedom. The media and those on the radical left may appear as a colossus with all the advantages that England had in 1776, but today’s American patriots – much like those of yesteryear – are ready and willing to engage and sacrifice. These are a people who will not go quietly into the night, who will not sit down and shut up when ordered to do so.
The prelude is over, and the first movement of this march toward liberty can be heard in the distance. Time for Taps? Hell no. That’s a battle cry I hear in the distance.
