Immigration Roundup: Thousands Arrested in ICE Sweep

ICE efforts paying off with apprehension of more than 2,000 illegal immigrants with violent criminal histories.

Editor’s note: When it comes to immigration — illegal or otherwise — the American people have a right to be concerned. Liberty Nation author Kelli Ballard examines contentious issues related to today’s hottest topic.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released its newest report on sweeps meant to capture illegal immigrants, mostly those who already have a violent criminal history. In just a month (July 13 to August 20), the agency was able to apprehend more than 2,000 “at-large” individuals in the United States illegally or who can be removed from the country because of criminal activity.

A whopping 85% of those arrested had criminal convictions and pending criminal charges: 1,089 with convictions and 863 with pending charges. In the press release, the agency’s acting director, Tony H. Pham, was quoted as saying, “The aliens targeted during this operation preyed on men, women and children in our communities, committing serious crimes and, at times, repeatedly hurting their victims.”

The charges involved are staggering. Here are just a few:

  • 388 convictions and 386 pending charges for assault, which includes battery as well as assault against law enforcement.
  • 83 convictions and 64 pending charges for sexual offenses, including rape.
  • 71 convictions and 40 pending charges for sexual offenses involving a minor.
  • 14 convictions and 12 pending charges for homicide.
  • 9 convictions and 15 pending for kidnapping.

Despite sanctuary states that prohibit local law enforcement from helping federal agents capture these dangerous aliens, ICE was successful in at least getting these individuals out of our neighborhoods. Unfortunately, this uphill battle is made more difficult with the left’s continuous attempts to open the borders and fight the president’s illegal immigration control efforts at every turn.

Liberty Nation’sIllegals Crime Report” emphasizes just how important it is to support and maintain these agencies that seek to remove dangerous undocumented aliens. According to the ICE press release:

“In the 2019 fiscal year, ICE arrested individuals with more than 1,900 convictions or charges for homicide, 1,800 for kidnapping, 12,000 sex offenses, 5,000 sexual assaults, 45,000 assaults, 67,000 crimes involving drugs, 10,000 weapons offenses, and 74,000 DUIs.”

ICE’s Pham explained that “[b]y focusing our efforts on perpetrators of crimes against people, we we’re [sic] able to remove these threats from our communities and prevent future victimization from occurring.” And, “Through our targeted enforcement efforts, we are eliminating the threat posed by these criminals, many of whom are repeat offenders.”

Chalk one up for the good guys and prayers for continued success.  America, it seems, is being attacked on all fronts — from the Coronavirus to civil unrest — and we can’t afford to be lax on apprehending criminal aliens who shouldn’t be in the nation in the first place.
