Immigration Roundup: Dems Seek Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants

And they want the undocumented to be eligible for stimulus payments.

Editor’s note: When it comes to immigration — illegal or otherwise — the American people have a right to be concerned. Each week, Liberty Nation author Kelli Ballard examines a contentious issue related to today’s hottest topic.

Another stimulus package, another round of demands from the Democrats who search for ways to get their agendas and pet projects passed one way or another. That the nation’s economy is tanking, and American families are losing jobs, homes, and businesses, while we endure the forced pandemic lockdown, doesn’t seem to matter, not when they can use the crisis to their advantage. Helping illegal aliens has been one of their biggest pushes, and now it appears they tried to get amnesty for aliens in the most recent stimulus bill.

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) introduced the Federal Immigrant Release for Safety and Security Together (FIRST) Act in April. If adopted, it would release immigrants currently in detention facilities, supposedly to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. But here’s the kicker: The act would also stop all immigration enforcement against those who are not considered a “significant” threat to public safety.

While the two Dems were concocting their own brew to supplement the growing list of demands, other Democrats were busy adding their conditions to the stimulus package, which, as we all know, was intended to help American citizens through this shutdown crisis. Once again they pushed to allow the $1,200 relief checks to go to illegal aliens, adding that they should be delivered to those who pay income taxes via an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). This is used by people who cannot get a Social Security number for one reason or another.

To justify this move, proponents refer to mixed families in which at least one member is a citizen or otherwise in the United States legally. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) chimed in with her reasoning, saying, “The Supreme Court ruled that children, undocumented children should have a right to education in our country. Why not then should citizens’ children, children in taxpayers’ families, not have the opportunity to get the checks that they need?”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was none too happy with the idea. “Can you believe it?” he exclaimed. “We forgot to have the Treasury Department send money to people here illegally. My goodness. What an oversight.”

Another section of the bill would protect “essential critical infrastructure workers,” allowing some illegal aliens who are working to be put into a “period of deferred action,” which would authorize them to work. It would also protect employers who hire illegal immigrants, changing the law so that it would not be a violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

“Is it really a good idea to not only grant an amnesty to illegal aliens but to absolve employers who have been breaking the law in the last few months?” asked Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli. “I don’t think so!”

The left thinks nothing about breaking the rules to get what they want. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom started handing out stimulus money to the state’s illegals, creating a $75 million fund for them, and now the Seattle City Council has petitioned Washington’s governor to provide a $100 million fund for illegal aliens.

There’s nothing like a crisis to show how selfish politicians can be.
