When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
This particular column might give you a bit of a shock. Normally, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, everyone’s favorite socialist, fills the week with snippets of political humor due to her ineptitude, ignorance, and gaffes. But this week, she didn’t have much to say. No, really, the lawmaker went dark, only popping up for air to make an asinine argument for the abolition of the electoral college. Might there be a reason why AOC has decided to zip her lip?
Abolish the Electoral College
Following along with the rest of hard-left, Ocasio-Cortez slammed the electoral college. The lawmaker posted an Instagram livestream video from a car traveling in a rural area. She took the opportunity to lament the fact that the electoral college gives people living in middle America a say in who runs the federal government.
But most notably – and least surprising – was her attempt to call the electoral college racist. In the video, she claimed that the system has a “racial injustice breakdown” because it allows white voters living in rural towns to influence federal elections.
Of course, the reason the hard left wishes to eliminate the electoral college is obvious: Doing so would give it a clear advantage in federal elections. When President Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, he earned more electoral votes but failed to win the popular vote. Similar results have occurred during other elections in which the Republican candidate won, and a system that allowed someone like Trump to win is intolerable to the left, apparently.
Why So Silent?
Other than her inane comments on the electoral college, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has been conspicuously quiet. Her Twitter activity has been rather tame, and she has not made any major television appearances. In short – AOC has been pretty boring this past week.
She has not explained her silence, but some have speculated that it might be related to the recent departure of Saikat Chakrabarti, her former chief of staff. Could it be that when she lost this adviser, she also lost the person who wrote her script? Or perhaps she simply wishes to avoid calling undue attention to herself as a result of the spotlight on Chakrabarti and his current legal woes.
Either way, AOC’s newfound, and welcome, embrace of silence will likely help her politically. Her poll numbers have plummeted to dangerous levels, and it does not appear the American public is on board with her progressive agenda. Perhaps the representative is hoping that if she can restrain her urge to chime in on the issues, she can still earn enough support to be re-elected in 2020. Will it work? Only time will tell.
What does AOC have in store for us next week? Tune in to find out!
