When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was at it again, promoting the progressive cause. Last week, she focused her vitriol on the wealthy. But this week, she sounded off on the immigration issue. As you already know, AOC is an open borders advocate who has routinely called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Now, she is bashing the “public charge” immigration policy and even encouraging residents to protect illegal aliens from ICE and Border Patrol.
AOC Slams “Public Charge” Immigration Policy
The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of President Trump’s “public charge” policy, which is intended to prioritize migrants who are less likely to rely on government assistance programs after they enter the country. The policy offended many in the open borders crowd that wishes to grant government benefits to as many illegals as possible despite the drain on the country’s welfare system.
Predictably, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez took issue with the decision, claiming that the policy is a “wealth test” for immigrants wishing to come to the United States. “This is shameful,” she tweeted. “America shouldn’t have a wealth test for admission. It’s a place where millions of people are descendants of immigrants who came w nothing & made a life.” She added, “The American Dream isn’t a private club with a cover charge – it’s the possibility of remaking your future.”8
The Supreme Court’s vote reversed the decision of a lower court that blocked the policy from being implemented. The White House defended the policy, arguing that it ensures that the U.S. accepts more immigrants who will be self-sufficient and fewer who will rely on taxpayer support. Of course, AOC and her ilk oppose such a policy; they have been pushing for expanding government assistance to individuals entering the country illegally. Such a policy would throw a monkey wrench into their agenda.
AOC Encourages Sabotaging Immigration Authorities
Ever since she endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for president, AOC has joined him on the campaign trail, giving numerous speeches urging voters to support him. In a recent speech in Iowa, she explained that one of the reasons why she supports Sanders is because he “has actually committed to breaking up ICE and CBP.”
The Sanders campaign website lays out the senator’s plans to deal with immigration. It says that he will “completely reshape and reform our immigration enforcement system, including breaking up ICE and CBP and redistributing their functions to their proper authorities.”
AOC concurs with Sanders’ immigration agenda. While addressing Iowa voters, she asserted, “once you’re at the point of caging children and separating families, there’s no going back from that.” She claimed that the U.S. needs “a wholesale re-imagination of our immigration system that actually honors human rights and treats every person as a human being and with the dignity that every person deserves from the right of their birth.”
But it was later in the speech that she made a rather shocking statement about how communities should organize. “That is what community is all about, and at its best, that’s what movement and organizing is all about, because it lasts beyond an election cycle. That’s what’s so important for us to understand, that this organizing, one way is elections, but organizing is also unionizing your workplace,” she said.
She continued: “Organizing is about tipping people off if you start to see that ICE and CBP are in communities to try to keep people safe.”
That’s right, folks. AOC urged citizens to warn illegal immigrants if they notice that ICE or CBP is in their communities. Instead of allowing these agencies to enforce the country’s laws, AOC thinks it makes more sense to continue allowing illegal aliens to flout them. But would we expect anything less from everyone’s favorite socialist?
What does AOC have in store for us next week? Tune in to find out!
