When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was back at it again this week, displaying her usual ignorance about American politics. First, she made a completely baseless accusation against President Trump on Twitter, then she received a quick primer on domestic terrorism, and one of her constituents had some choice words about her failure to represent them.
Let’s begin, shall we?
Trump Being Bribed?
Reporter David Farenthold penned a piece for The Washington Post discussing leaked documents showing that a sheikh who wishes to become president of Iraq stayed at one of Trump’s hotels over 1,000 times. You might be thinking, “so what?” Well, cut the guy some slack, folks, the left doesn’t have much ammo nowadays after the Big Mueller Letdown of last month.
AOC tweeted a link to the story with her not-so-brilliant assessment: “Sure looks like powerful people are trying to bribe the President into war.”
Here is a list of the piece of evidence Ocasio-Cortez used to back up her claim:
Yep, that’s it. She didn’t provide a shred of evidence – or even a cogent argument – to support her statement. Not surprisingly, it did not seem to occur to the young lawmaker that even 1,000 stays or more at Trump’s hotel wouldn’t likely provide enough of a payment to compel the president to go to war. Apparently, she forgot that Trump is already quite wealthy.
AOC Learns About Domestic Terrorism
Ocasio-Cortez received a brief lesson on how domestic terrorism is addressed by law enforcement after she decided to engage in a bit of race-baiting. During a recent hearing, she lamented the notion that white mass shooters are charged with mere hate crimes, while Muslim mass shooters are subject to domestic terrorism charges.
In fact, those acting under the influence of foreign terrorist groups are referred to as “homegrown violent extremists,” while the term “domestic terrorist” is reserved for those spurred to action by internal national forces, such as anti-government ideology, or racial bias, according to FBI Assistant Director of the Counterterrorism Division, Michael McGarrity.
Furthermore, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) tried to explain that there is no domestic terrorism statute under U.S. law. “That’s why you were describing there were no charges under it. Because there was nothing to charge,” Roy said. “However, there are numerous crimes under which you can charge people who are engaged in criminal activity, and that happens all of the time, whether it’s hate crimes or other crimes, right? Engaged in criminal activity, federal, state and local, correct?”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Michael McGarrity
It appeared that AOC didn’t quite understand and questioned the matter further, referencing the mass shooting that took place in San Bernardino, CA. “So, because the perpetrator was Muslim they’re – doesn’t it seem that because the perpetrator is Muslim that the designation would say it’s a foreign organization?”
McGarrity explained that the law does not distinguish between the religions of mass shooters, but would designate all terrorists who were radicalized by foreign forces in the same way.
Unfortunately, AOC still didn’t get it. “Could you see how one could see how the way that we are pursuing and charging white supremacy, particularly if they tend to be charged with hate crimes, and where that same type of violence committed by a Muslim extremist could be charged with domestic terrorism?” she asked.
“Some of the definitions I think we’re using, we’re talking past each other,” McGarrity responded before finally just giving up.
Too Busy Attacking Trump?
Some of AOC’s constituents aren’t too happy with their congresswoman. Veterans in the Bronx expressed their displeasure with the lawmaker after walking out of a private meeting. They stated that Ocasio-Cortez is ignoring critical local issues in favor of “beating up on” President Trump and the GOP.
Silvio Mazzella, a Vietnam veteran and treasurer of Bronx Community Board 11, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that the meeting they had on May 29 was the first time they had seen the representative since she started her term in January. “She was in office five months, and this is the first time she came to our community,” he said.
If you didn’t know any better, you might think AOC is more concerned about pushing her pie-in-the-sky Green New Deal than actually making a difference in her community. When questioned by reporters, Corbin Trent, Ocasio-Cortez’s spokesman, claimed that the veterans did not walk out of the meeting, but Mazzella debunked that statement in typical New York fashion: He said it was “bullsh*t.”
Mazzella took issue with Ocasio-Cortez’s apparent neglect of her community, especially when it comes to problems with the postal service and neighborhood graffiti. “We called her back in February about a postal problem, and she never addressed it, she showed up at the meeting and said ‘I’ll look into it.’”
He also commented on AOC’s rhetoric, criticizing her for slamming U.S. foreign policy and blaming America for the Yemen Civil War. “It reminded me of when I got back from Nam, with the protesters,” he said. “They were there when I got off the plane. No matter what they believe, we are out there fighting for our country.”
Perhaps Ocasio-Cortez would be well-advised to focus a little more on the community she represents than on being the media’s darling.
What does AOC have in store for us next week? Tune in to find out!
