When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
This week, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez focused her rage at the illegal immigration issue, castigating the Trump administration for the poor conditions at migrant detention centers. The lawmaker also showed her support for migrant children by excoriating a company providing them with a much-needed necessity. Lastly, a picture surfaced revealing exactly how badly she feels for asylum seekers and illegal immigrants attempting to enter the country.
AOC Knocks Wayfair For Helping Migrants
Given the level of virtue signaling over the plight of migrants housed in detention centers, you might think that the progressive left would be ecstatic to see the children receive much-needed resources to make their stay more bearable. Unfortunately, you would be wrong. Wayfair, an online company that sells home goods, came under fire from the progressive left for selling beds to a contractor working with the government to house the children of migrants seeking asylum.
Naturally, AOC was among the prominent leftists leading the charge against the company. About 500 of Wayfair’s workers staged a walkout in protest of the company’s decision to provide beds for children. She tweeted:
“Wayfair workers couldn’t stomach they were making beds to cage children.
They asked the company to stop. CEO said no.
Tomorrow, they‘re walking out.
This is what solidarity looks like – a reminder that everyday people have real power, as long as we’re brave enough to use it.”
While AOC might claim that “this is what solidarity looks like,” sensible people can see that this actually what hypocrisy looks like. If progressives care about the children as much as they claim, why would they not want them to receive adequate bedding? Perhaps it’s because they see kids without beds as a better political tool.
Staged Empathy?
Recently, pictures surfaced on social media showing Rep. Ocasio-Cortez at a supposed detention center, emoting about the hardships facing migrants who wish to reside in the United States. The photographer, who took the pictures last year before AOC took office, tweeted the images and stated that “she took time awy frm her campaign & came dwn to #Tornillo to protest the #tentcity housing migrant children.”
Ocasio-Cortez replied to the tweet, writing: “I’ll never forget this, because it was the moment I saw with my own eyes that the America I love was becoming a nation that steals refugee children from their parents,& caged them.”
At first glance, the photos seem to depict AOC weeping in front of a fence as she views the suffering of the kids. But newly uncovered photos show something much different. Indeed, the whole photoshoot seems to have been staged. The new pictures, which were taken from different angles, show that AOC was standing in front of an empty parking lot, not a migrant detention center.
Whoops. Perhaps they should have thought that through a bit more before attempting to deceive the American public.
AOC Rails Against Emergency Bill for Migrants
In another not-so-surprising display of hypocrisy, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez railed against a Senate bill intended to provide emergency funding for migrants in detention centers. She repeatedly urged the House not to pass the bill without including more Democratic goodies. “Under no circumstances should the House vote for a McConnell-only bill w/ no negotiation with Democrats. Hell no,” she tweeted. “That’s an abdication of power we should refuse to accept. They will keep hurting kids if we do.”
Unfortunately for the young representative, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi agreed to pass the bill. As you can imagine, this didn’t make AOC happy. True to form, she took to Twitter to denounce the decision:
“This Senate Bill will have us write a $4.6 Billion blank check (incl military $) for the border w NO accountability – just a verbal pinky promise.
Trump is not to be trusted with protecting our immigrants. Why must that even be stated? We need hard lines of protection, in ink.”
This week didn’t go well for AOC, who had a fake photo-op exposed and failed to convince the House to scrap a bill designed to help children. Perhaps next week will go better for everyone’s favorite socialist. Let’s hope not.
What does AOC have in store for us next week? Tune in to find out!
