When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was on fire this week amidst the media storm that was set off by President Donald Trump’s tweets targeting members of the Intersectional Socialist Squad. This week the young representative attempted to tie the word “communist” to white supremacy, tried to create a panic in response to Trump’s rhetoric, and even picked yet another challenger for her seat in New York City.
Ocasio-Cortez Gets a New Challenger

Scherie Murray
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, whose popularity has been plummeting, has yet another challenger for her seat next year. A fifth Republican candidate has declared her intention to run against the lawmaker, and this person will not be susceptible to the Democrats’ usual race-baiting tactics. Scherie Murray, a Jamaican business owner, recently announced that she would attempt to unseat the representative in 2020.
The potential nominee indicated that she plans to go full force against the incumbent. “There’s a crisis in Queens, and it’s called A-O-C,” Murray argued in a tweet. “She isn’t worried about us — she’s worried about being famous. That’s why I’m running for Congress.”
In an appearance on Fox News, Murray slammed Ocasio-Cortez for “killing the Amazon New York deal” and for promoting her “job-killing Green New Deal.” Being both black and female – and a legal immigrant – Murray will be immune to Ocasio-Cortez’s favored political strategy: Labeling her opponents as bigots. It’s unclear whether or not she will become the nominee, but if she wins, she will likely give the unpopular lawmaker a run for her money.
Communism as White Supremacy?
Speaking of race-baiting, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez made sure she fulfilled her weekly quota of false bigotry accusations. As you know, the leftist dictionary of problematic words is about as lengthy as Charlie Sheen’s rap sheet, but the young lawmaker recently added another. Now, the word “communist” is racist because of course it is.
In a recent tweet, Ocasio-Cortez excoriated a conservative publication for justifying racist remarks made about a socialist. “It was one of the preferred smears against integrating schools, & one of the main attacks segregationists used against [Martin Luther King Jr],” she wrote, linking to a tweet for the far-left magazine The Nation. The magazine’s tweet intimated that National Review pioneered the alleged slur “in their many attacks on Martin Luther King, Jr.”
The representative’s tweets came amid criticism of her far-left policy proposals, including the Green New Deal and Medicare-for-all, which would drastically grow the federal government. Apparently, she is grown weary of being called a socialist and communist, so she had to figure out a way to shame her opponents into eschewing the term. Good luck with that.
Trump’s Dangerous Tweets
Last, but most certainly not least, the representative joined the chorus of progressives who collectively clutched their pearls in response to President Trump’s tweets implying that members of the squad who routinely blast America should go back to their countries, fix their governments, then come back here to show us how it’s done. Later in the week, when President Trump held a rally, attendees could be heard chanting “send her back.”
These chants prompted the lawmaker to pretend that the president had placed minority Americans in grave peril. “The president put millions of Americans in danger last night,” she told reporters. “His rhetoric is endangering lots of people.”
She also said that Trump was “creating a volatile environment in this country through violent rhetoric that puts anyone like Ilhan, anyone who believes in the rights of all people, in danger.”
To be fair, many on both the left and the right have criticized Trump’s tweets and the audience’s chants earlier this week. Trump himself said that he did not approve of the chant. But the notion that millions of Americans are now in danger is patently absurd and another example of the left’s fearmongering.
