When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
This past week exposed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a hypocrite – again. Apparently, she isn’t as gung-ho about being against school choice as she might have led people to believe. And as socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) rises in the polls, AOC continues her war against the establishment Democrats.
Will AOC Be in Trouble After 2020?
Being at the forefront of the progressive drive to oust Democrats who are not radical enough, Ocasio-Cortez has taken a number of steps to advocate for more far-left candidates. She tweeted: “It’s time to elect a progressive majority in Congress accountable to strong, grassroots movements that push for support for issues like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, racial justice, & more.”
The representative created a PAC called “Courage to Change,” which is supporting seven female candidates with funding. Two of these individuals are running against incumbent Democrats during the primaries. “My ambition right now is to be a little less lonely in Congress,” she told The New York Times.
However, there is a decent chance that her efforts might backfire. The establishment is none too happy about their superstar targeting members of its ranks. After she refused to pay her dues to the caucus’ fundraising organization, some are considering redistricting her out of office after the 2020 census. This would eliminate her seat, and she would once again become a private citizen. Of course, if she’s savvy enough, she might be able to leverage the inevitable outrage from the far-left crowd into obtaining another political office. Either way, it is apparent that the Democratic civil war might have some interesting developments in the years to come.
More Progressive Hypocrisy
It appears that the hypocrisy of the far left doesn’t just apply to those who rant against so-called climate deniers while flying around the world in private jets or calling everyone racist while railing against white people. In this case, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez – an avid opponent of school choice – admitted to helping her goddaughter get into a New York charter school.
In 2017, the soon-to-be lawmaker recorded a Facebook Live video in which she talked about the neighborhood where she grew up. “This area’s like a lot of where my family is from,” she said while strolling down the street. “My goddaughter, I got her into a charter school like maybe a block or two down.”
To those who understand that allowing parents the right to choose which schools their children attend, this is not an issue. But for the rabid socialist crowd that wishes to meddle as much as possible in the personal lives of the citizenry, this type of sentiment is anathema.
The Democratic Socialists of America’s New York platform decries such practices, claiming that “Charter schools act as tools for privatizing education and weakening the power of unionized teachers.” In fact, they have insisted that the U.S. should end “the creation of new charter schools, [banning] the expansion of existing charter schools.”
AOC is on record saying that public education is “one of the greatest gems of public good in the United States” during a town hall organized by Jackson Heights People for Public Schools. She argued that residents living in the Bronx were being “incentivized to enroll into a charter school.”
She is not the only progressive who has criticized non-public schools while secretly supporting them. Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was caught lying about sending her children to private schools.
