When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
This week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, our favorite crusader against bigotry and climate change, made headlines for several comments she made on various issues. Falling in line with the rest of the ultra progressive crowd, she advocated for the abolition of prisons. Then, she railed against President Donald Trump for allegedly exhibiting his well-hidden anti-Semitism. Finally, the lawmaker pulled a John Kerry on the decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria.
No More Prisons?
Earlier this week, the representative explained her position on doing away with prisons on Twitter. “Mass incarceration is our American reality. It is a system whose logic evolved from the same lineage as Jim Crow, American apartheid, & slavery,” she tweeted. “To end it, we have to change. That means we need to have a real conversation about decarceration & prison abolition in this country.”
Yep, the US needs to have yet another “real conversation” about some issue the far left wants to push. As usual, the lawmaker proceeded to bash those asking how she would handle the consequences of such a move. “The right is already freaking out,” she tweeted. “[P]eople tend to say ‘what do you do with all the violent people?’ as a defense for incarcerating millions. Our lawmaking process means we come to solutions together, &either way we should work to an end where our prison system is dramatically smaller than it is today.”
Naturally, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t actually provide any viable solutions that would assuage the concerns of those who know she is full of you-know-what. But apparently, being a part of the Squad means never having to explain how we can accomplish their legislative flights of fancy.
Criticizing Adam Schiff is Anti-Semitism!
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez – who is known for her close associations with Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) – decided to stand against anti-Semitism in an ironic tweet that excoriated President Trump for supposedly engaged in anti-Jewish bigotry. Her comments are rather hilarious given her refusal to condemn Tlaib and Omar for the anti-Semitic comments they have made over the years.
But as we already know, the lawmaker has no issue with hypocrisy. When Trump criticized Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is leading the charge against the president for his dealings with Ukraine, AOC defended Schiff using her usual race-baiting tactics. “Understand that Trump is engaged in deliberate, atrocious, targeted anti-Semitism,” she tweeted. In another post, she added, “His bigotry is reflective of the white supremacist base he relies on for political gain.”
Wow. Well apparently it wasn’t enough to attack the president for supposed bigotry, she had to go after his supporters as well. Everyone saw how well that worked out for Hillary Clinton, right?
AOC Flip-Flops on Syria
In a move that would make former Secretary of State and failed presidential candidate John Kerry proud, Ocasio-Cortez flip-flopped on American involvement in the Syrian civil war. In April, the representative joined other lawmakers in a bipartisan letter criticizing the president for failing to remove troops from the Syrian conflict. “The 2015 introduction of U.S. military forces into hostilities in Syria was never approved by Congress, in violation of the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution of 1973,” the letter read. The document called on Trump to fulfill his promise to end US involvement in “unnecessary wars.”
But it appears Ocasio-Cortez had a change of heart. After the president announced that he would relocate 50 troops stationed in northern Syria to avoid clashes with the invading Turkish military, the lawmaker took to social media to express her disagreement. “Trump’s sudden withdrawal from northern Syria & endorsement of Turkey’s actions could have catastrophic consequences & risks laying the ground for immense violence and suffering,” she tweeted. “We can pursue a strategy to stop our endless wars without endangering the lives of innocent people.”
In another post on Twitter, the representative claimed that Trump was kowtowing to Turkey to protect his business interests in the country. So does this indicate that AOC is becoming pro-war? Perhaps it simply shows that she is willing to embrace any vision when it means she can attack the president. Of course, it is unlikely that anyone other than her followers will take her words seriously on this subject.
What does AOC have in store for us next week? Tune in to find out!
