When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was in rare form this week, defending her previous statements on the world ending due to climate change, calling out Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, and repeating a tired old trope about the pro-life crowd.
AOC Slams Biden
This week, Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at Joe Biden for his perceived lack of enthusiasm about climate change. Put simply, she was angry because he has not fully embraced her pet project, the Green New Deal. Perhaps old Joe has some common sense after all.
In a rally held by the Sunrise Movement, Ocasio-Cortez commented on Biden without mentioning him by name. Very clever, AOC. “I’ll be damned if the same politicians who refused to act (in past decades) are going to try to come back today and say we need a ‘middle of the road’ approach to save our lives.”
The representative was apparently referencing a Reuters report indicating that Biden was looking for a “middle ground” in the approach to climate change. “Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden is crafting a climate change policy he hopes will appeal to both environmentalists and the blue-collar voters who elected Donald Trump, according to two sources, carving out a middle ground approach that will likely face heavy resistance from green activists,” they wrote.
Well, it looks like we know who AOC isn’t supporting for the Democratic nomination, right?
AOC Tries to Clean Up “12 Years” Comments
Remember when Ocasio-Cortez claimed that the U.S. has only 12 years before everyone on the planet is incinerated in a huge blast of flame, unless we adopt the Green New Deal? Well, she brought that claim back into the conversation earlier this week. Of course, it’s only fair to point out that the lawmaker didn’t actually mean that the world was going to end in 12 years, only that the impact of the climate change would be irreversible if the country did not act. But either way, her comments resembled the same doomsday prophecies spouted by the likes of Al Gore for decades.
On Twitter, she mocked the GOP’s reaction to her comments, claiming that she was just kidding.
“This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check’ it.
Like the ‘world ending in 12 years’ thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal.
But the GOP is basically Dwight from The Office so who knows.”
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, AOC is essentially insulting the intelligence of her audience by pretending that her comments were simply “dry humor.” The problem? The footage shows that she clearly wasn’t joking. Indeed, there was not so much as an amused smirk when she uttered those words.
AOC: Pro-Lifers Want to Control Women’s Bodies
As you might have heard, several states have passed legislation limiting abortion, much to the consternation of many on the left. Of course, Ocasio-Cortez could not resist the opportunity to weigh in on the matter. She tweeted:
“Abortion bans aren’t just about controlling women’s bodies.
They’re about controlling women’s sexuality. Owning women.
From limiting birth control to banning comprehensive sex ed, US religious fundamentalists are working hard to outlaw sex that falls outside their theology.”
You would think someone that young could come up with a more creative argument instead of trotting out the same hackneyed (and demonstrably false) arguments of her predecessors. But this type of deception is part and parcel of the pro-abortion camp’s defense of their position. By using a rhetorical sleight of hand, they hope to get people to focus on the woman’s autonomy over her body, not on the fact that the issue of abortion is about the body of the child whose life is being snuffed out.
