Georgia State Representative Jason Spencer is resigning at the end of the month. His resignation comes after he was shown on a recent episode of Sacha Baron Cohen’s new show, Who Is America, in which Cohen tricks politicians – mostly conservatives – into performing embarrassing acts.
Rep. Spencer Appears on Who Is America
In this particular episode, Cohen disguised himself as Col. Erran Morad, a fictional Israeli anti-terrorism expert. Spencer interacted with Cohen under the pretense that the lawmaker would learn how to protect himself from being kidnapped by an Islamic terrorist group, such as ISIS.
During one of the segments, Cohen — disguised as Morad — told Spencer that one of the methods he could use to identify potential terrorists wearing burkas is to imitate a Chinese tourist and use a selfie stick to take “upskirt” photos to see if the person is carrying a weapon. He also told Spencer to practice using Chinese words to deceive them.
Next, Cohen tricked Spencer into shouting the “n” word repeatedly, claiming that this would attract the attention necessary to scare off would-be kidnappers. Lastly, the actor convinced the state representative to pull down his pants, claiming that his bare buttocks could scare off potential terrorists — who supposedly fear touching another man’s rear end. The lawmaker repeatedly pushed his rear end into a pad being held by Cohen while yelling “America!”
The Backlash Against the Episode
As you might imagine, Spencer’s performance elicited both outrage and ridicule. Many were offended by his repeatedly shouting the “n” word. Others felt that his behavior was not worthy of the office he holds. Moreover, as Cohen intended, many on the left used the episode to imply that the representative’s behavior is indicative of many on the right.Georgia State Representative Jason Spencer
At first, Spencer stated that he would not resign, claiming that he had been manipulated. He told The Washington Post that Cohen “took advantage of my paralyzing fear that my family would be attacked.”
Apparently, this excuse was not sufficient. Several prominent Republicans called on Spencer to step down. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal tweeted: “The actions and language used by Jason Spencer are appalling and offensive.” Georgia House Speaker David Ralston stated that Spencer had “disgraced himself.” Brian Kemp, who recently won the GOP nomination for governor, released a statement saying: “Rep. Spencer’s words and behavior are hurtful, insensitive and completely unacceptable.”
But Aren’t Conservatives Racist?
What many will notice about this story is the asinine behavior of Rep. Spencer. They might even take issue with the fact that Cohen — like many other left-leaning entertainers — is clearly targeting conservatives to make a political point. However, this situation also pokes a hole in the left’s narrative regarding conservatives and the GOP.
The left, through the establishment media, the entertainment industry, and universities, has launched a decades-long smear campaign against conservatives that is designed to label them as bigots. Unfortunately, their efforts have been largely successful — a significant number of minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community believe that the majority of right-leaning Americans are raging bigots.
Stories like this reveal the fact that conservatives are not — and do not support — racism. If the GOP were truly chock-full of racists who cater to white supremacists, they would not have been so quick to call for Spencer’s resignation. Indeed, the lawmaker only used the “n” word because Cohen tricked him into thinking that he was supposed to. Even so, right-leaning politicians were still unwilling to tolerate the representative’s conduct.
This isn’t the only example. Earlier this month, conservative journalist Jack Posobiec tweeted a video showing the Proud Boys — a right-wing organization — holding a rally. When white supremacists attempted to join their demonstration, they were promptly kicked out. This has happened many times at several different conservative rallies. Of course, the media does not want any of us to know about these events, so they “forget” to report it.

While the left has been successful in convincing a significant number of Americans that conservatives are racists, it seems that many are beginning to see through the deception. More minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community are leaving the Democratic Party. While they aren’t all joining the GOP, many are gravitating toward the conservative movement.
When people can see with their own eyes that the conservative movement is not rife with racism, they are more willing to be open to learning more about conservatism. This is especially true for those who have become disillusioned with the Democrats. As alternative media connects more Americans with conservative ideas, the lie will be revealed. It is only a matter of time before the left’s caricature of the bigoted conservative finally falls apart completely.
