Even though progressive politicians are calling for the agency’s destruction, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to win victories in its bid to keep Americans safe. While the public may be distracted by stories of comedians like Kevin Hart losing his Oscar-hosting gig because of years-old tweets and a silly Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez vs. Donald Trump Jr. fiasco, the far left continues quietly its efforts to abolish ICE.

When they realized there would be no serious backlash to the use of tear gas against illegal immigrants storming the border, the legacy media have not given much coverage to the battle over immigration. Still, the debate is being waged, and some on the left tirelessly work against ICE at the local and federal level.

Progressives Still Want to Abolish ICE

After regaining control of the House of Representatives, Democratic lawmakers were expected to pursue a pro-illegal immigration agenda. However, some have indicated that while the abolition of ICE remains a top priority, they intend to focus on other issues as well.

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) told CBS News that House Democrats would focus on issues “around health care, around good-paying jobs, around dealing with the culture of corruption.” However, the lawmaker — who campaigned on abolishing ICE — also said, “I still think many of us still have issues of immigration reform as a very, very high priority.“

Despite Pocan’s words, it is unlikely that the Democrats will give up their bid to eliminate ICE anytime soon. “Abolish ICE” was one of their loudest battle cries during the 2018 midterm campaign, and failing to follow through on their promises could be a devastating mistake.

It’s also worth pointing out that it is not just left-leaning politicians who have placed ICE in their political crosshairs. Several local law enforcement agencies plan to stop collaboration with the agency.

In Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, recently elected Sheriff Garry McFadden put an end to a program that allowed ICE to conduct operations in the county jail. Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who now heads up Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office, indicated that he would “physically kick ICE out of the county jails.”

ICE Proves Their Worth

American progressives are working hard to destroy an agency that combats illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. Nevertheless, ICE continues to rack up victories against criminals who have infiltrated the United States.

Recently, ICE announced that it made a number of significant arrests during a five-day operation conducted in New Jersey. The operation “targeted at-large criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and other immigration violators and was supported by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) New Jersey Field Office.”

Those apprehended in the operation range in age from 18 to 65 years old. Some of their previous offenses include domestic violence, fraud, possession of a weapon, sexual assault on a minor, child abuse, distribution of narcotics, and others. Put simply: These are predominantly dangerous criminals who do not belong in the United States.

Unfortunately, those in the far left do not seem concerned with the influx of dangerous people in to the United States. Instead, they demonize the White House’s efforts to keep Americans safe. For this reason, they savagely attack ICE, which seeks to prevent bad actors from victimizing innocents.

Of course, none of this is surprising. After all, allowing more illegals into the country is an integral part of their plan to expand their electoral advantages. Perhaps left-leaning individuals will force their party to take a more reasonable approach to the illegal immigration problem. After all, there must be some on the left who aren’t willing to sacrifice the safety of Americans for political power, right?
