Trouble in New Mexico
One of the towering stories affecting liberty this week has to be the arrest and imprisonment of Larry Hopkins, the de-facto leader of the United Constitutional Patriots. UCP has been on the front lines of the on-going border crisis in New Mexico – helping out beleaguered border patrol agents.
The leftist Governor of New Mexico Michelle Grisham appears to have used Hopkins as a political pawn by putting him under arrest for a two-year-old accusation. If that wasn’t enough, the 69-year old Hopkins got the be-jesus beat out of him while in prison.
Reaction from the legacy media has been two-fold: ignore the story or distort it by calling Hopkins and company a dangerous vigilante group and militant militia that must be stopped. LN National Correspondent Sarah Cowgill was on the ground working this story all week to try and find out what’s happening in the Land of Enchantment – minus the spin. UCP’s official spokesman, Jim Benvie, in an interview with Cowgill discovered that there might be more to the story than what’s being parroted by the MSM.
Benvie told Cowgill that the UC Patriots apprehended more than 6,000 immigrants in just 60 days and turned them over to U.S. authorities at the border.
What to Watch For: UCP spokesman Jim Benvie is expected to make a “major announcement” on Monday. LibertyNation will be bringing you all the details as it happens.

Foreign Collusion?

Candace Marie Claiborne
This week a guilty plea regarding collusion with a foreign government was handed in to authorities. No, it wasn’t a member of the Trump team, it was a former official who worked for both Bill and Hillary Clinton, Candace Marie Claiborne.
The facts of the case show that Claiborne knowingly gave “internal U.S. Government analyses” to Chinese spies in return for regular cash payments and luxury gifts. Having worked in the State Department under Hillary Clinton, it’s likely that she had access to important documents.
What to Watch For: Claiborne pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States, which carries a maximum sentence of five years. Yet questions remain on how she is getting off so lightly. Many in the DC Swamp are wondering how she managed to secure such a sweet deal from prosecutors. LN will keep digging.

Trump Goes on the Attack
In a surprise for House Democrats, President Trump turned the tables and decided to sue them for looking into his financial records. Trump, acting as a private citizen, filed a lawsuit against Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, Peter Kenny, Chief Investigative Counsel for the same Committee, and the accounting firm, Mazars USA.
Trump claims that Democrats have “declared all-out political war” against him using subpoenas as their weapon of choice.” The president complained that the Congressional Democrats are, “singularly obsessed with finding something they can use to damage the President politically.”
What to Watch For: What this means is that the House Committee members will have to justify there more than 100 subpoenas before a judge to show that they are engaged in more than just looking for politically damaging material. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here.

NRA Responds Bigly
President Trump and VP Mike Pence spoke at the NRA Leadership Forum in Indianapolis in what can only be described as a tub-thumping revival tent for the Second Amendment. The White House team hit every high-note, talked liberty and freedom, and basically gave the audience, and Americans who respect the Constitution their money’s worth.
Trump spoke on his administration’s successes, including the recent 3.2% 1st-qtr GDP growth. He also signaled that he would be ending the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty that many in the NRA see as foreign interference in American business.
What to Watch For: While the NRA conference looked on the outside to be one giant group-hug, there is an on-going leadership struggle inside the largest Second Amendment organization in America.LN’s Legal Affairs Editor, Scott Cosenza will be covering that for our readers.
