AG Barr on the Ropes?
Testifying before the Senate Judicial Committee on May 1, Attorney General William Barr endured what can only be described as a Trial by Harpies. The usual gaggle of Democrats desperate for a good soundbite sought to attack AG Barr’s credibility in the hopes of prolonging the fallout of the now defunct Robert Mueller report.
Much of the questioning revolved around the delay between Barr receiving the report and Congress being able to wield it. Committee Dems seem to believe that the new AG purposely delayed the release to allow his own summary and the president’s spin machine to do their magical work.
So far, Barr’s credibility remains unscathed, and the Senate Judicial Committee once again has the aura of a spoiled child disliking all decisions that would subvert its will.
What to Watch For:
Not to be thwarted by a calm demeanor and concise answers, Committee Democrats will be looking to catch AG Barr with either an accusation of Collusion with the President or with obstructing their own brand of justice. Haven’t we seen this before?
Corruption in Baltimore
Just one week after her home was raided by the FBI, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh (D) has stepped down from her position. In what was described by Maryland’s state accountant as “brazen, cartoonish corruption,” it appears that the now-former mayor may have been awarding contracts to companies that would buy thousands of copies of her children’s book, Healthy Holly.
The Kaiser Permanente insurance company was found to have bought thousands of Pugh’s books just before being awarded a $48 million contract. And they weren’t the only ones. The fact of the matter is that book-sale scams are not that rare; they are used as convenient ways for people who aren’t smart enough to run regular pay-for-play schemes or launder their own money to get cash from one party to another.
Pugh is rightly still considered innocent until proven guilty, but Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) hit the nail on the head when he said, “Mayor Pugh has lost the public trust. She is clearly not fit to lead.”
What to Watch For:
We’ve seen – all too often – criminals try to brazen their way out of situations before; either by claiming ignorance or downplaying the seriousness of the crimes using the public arena afforded to them by the privilege of their position. Don’t be surprised if Pugh is eventually found guilty but punished with just a mild ethics violation.
Biden’s Deplorable Moment
Most political hounds agree that the moment Hillary Clinton’s campaign took a nosedive was when she said that she would put half of all Trump supporters in a “basket of deplorables.” It looks like Joe Biden has just offered up another “deplorable” moment of sorts.
Addressing potential voters, Biden waxed lyrical about the debunked idea that President Trump referred to White Supremacists as “fine people.” He then went on to say:
“I believe history will look back on four years of this president and all he embraces as an aberrant moment in time. But if we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation.”
So, if you voted Trump, your choice was “aberrant.” Outside the norm, beyond the pale, over the line, and any other number of tropes. But wait – there’s more.
As Liberty Nation’s Tim Donner points out, “Joe Biden has launched his campaign for the White House by insulting the voters he needs to win over, and dismissing the validity of women’s concerns about his overt creepiness – in a party now committed to womens’ power.”
What to Watch For:
With Joe Biden still leading in most polls, the Democratic Party must be experiencing a paroxysm over the possibility of having such an easy-to-beat candidate as their trailblazer. Be prepared for much gushing and fawning over either Kamala Harris or Pete Buttigieg as the party machine instructs the friendly media to start going Big Love on someone … anyone … who is not the former VP.
Brit Elite Snub Trump
As if the British political establishment hasn’t embarrassed itself enough over its abject failure to deliver Brexit, many of the layabouts in Westminster decided to take offense at the idea of having President Donald Trump cross the pond on an official state visit.
Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn refused to accept an invitation to a state banquet during the president’s visit to the U.K. in June. Not only has Corbyn exposed himself as a partisan hack, but also as a hypocrite; he has happily entertained despots from Hamas to the IRA in the past.
What to Watch For:
Be on the lookout for virtue signalers extraordinaire trying to cut their political teeth on the Trump visit. The latest splinter party, Change UK, will come out swinging at the president … and why not? They have little to lose and media inches to gain. Keep your eyes peeled for House Speaker John Bercow to announce he won’t stand again – as a firm anti-Trumper, he has been vocal in his criticism … not good for a supposed impartial office holder.

Be on the lookout for:
- Dems trying to keep harping on AG Barr for “lying to Congress.”
- D-Day for Michael Cohen as he reports to federal prison.
- Ramadan officially begins – who knows what that might bring.
- On the campaign trail: O’Rourke in Iowa, Castro in New Hampshire, Harris in Michigan and Buttigieg in South Carolina.
