Gunslingers For Liberty: Antifa Terror and Trump’s Tweets – 7.21.19

The first official Antifa terrorist attack?

Editor’s note: Miss some of this week’s news, public policy and politics? Stay current, keep up and get out ahead of the pack with Liberty Nation’s Sunday News Round-up. Yeehaw!

The First Shot?

This last week may go down in history as the time Antifa finally revealed its brutal face to the world. While media pundits attempt to disconnect the actions of one individual from the larger group (strange how this only happens with those on the political left), the attempted bombing of an ICE detention facility was by almost every definition a terrorist act.

If we lived in normal times, the incident and release of the attacker’s manifesto would see those associated with the cause running for the hills in an effort to distance themselves. Yet Antifa colleagues of Willem Van Spronsen did not denounce the deranged culprit. Rather, they signaled their “virtue,” sending out messages in support of “our good friend and comrade.”

Liberty Nation’s Graham J. Noble wrote:

“It appears Van Spronsen intended his attack to be the first step – or one of the first steps – on the road to wider social unrest and even revolutionary activity…The whole discussion becomes a matter of rhetoric; some would argue that describing Van Spronsen as a terrorist, then, is unfair, hyperbolic or even libelous. Not so, if one looks again at how the FBI defines domestic terrorism. There is no question that Antifa qualifies as a movement that espouses an extremist ideology of a political, social and racial nature.”

This was a terrorist act intended to be the spark that lights the revolutionary touch paper. It will ultimately fail because Antifa members are thugs in masks who only feel strong in groups. Their cowardice will be their eventual downfall.

What to Watch For

Prepare for some serious knot-tying as the press tries to label this the act of a lone wolf. The investigation will receive little or no major media coverage and be quietly swept under the carpet. However, we can expect Antifa hotspots such as Portland to be much quieter for the foreseeable future.

Trump’s Tweets

Has President Trump committed his grandest faux pas to date or has he set the Democratic Party on a self-destructive collision course with his recent tweet? He wrote:

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly…

And viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

klavan:-the-real-problem-with-trump's-tweet-stormsWhile many would regard this remark as a poor decision at best, it has, as many things do, sparked a series of (intended) unintended consequences. The most notable being that a previously fractured party has now embraced its wayward daughters … and that renewed association with its more radical wing may ultimately be the Democrat downfall come 2020.

Prior to Trump’s tweet, the Democratic Party appeared as two separate camps: the old guard under Nancy Pelosi, and the new blood under Ocasio-Cortez. Forcing the mainstream Democrats to embrace the more extreme among them has now, for good or ill, reunited the factions under a common cause. But the regular Dem voters may run for the hills on election day, now that their formerly traditionalist party has “embraced the strange.”

What to Watch For

Under this more united banner, expect to see moderate Democratic Party politicians defending a position they would formerly have been uncomfortable with. They know that the only chance they have of beating Donald Trump is to get all of their voters out on polling day; a split party may end up costing them some key battleground states.

Washington Whispers & Other Juicy Tidbits

Be on the lookout for:

  • This week’s big show event will be Robert Mueller’s testimony before members of Congress. Expect to walk away from this circus with no new information. However, the media spin machine is already working overtime on pre-packaged responses that will apparently “signal the death of the Trump presidency.”
  • Tensions with Iran are not going away. As Britain awaits a new Prime Minister, one of the incoming leader’s first acts may be to join a public coalition with President Trump in a unified response.
