Gaslighting: The Radical Left’s Weapon of Choice

Origins of critical race theory cloaked in Marxism.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has repeatedly criticized the trucker Freedom Convoy for “waving Nazi flags” and defamed them as “racists” and “white supremacists.” However, in nearly every instance that the flag was displayed, it was the truckers’ attempt to identify Trudeau as implementing totalitarian policies. The radical left has used the same gaslighting technique for a long time. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen.

Media vs. Eyewitnesses

Reporting on the Freedom Convoy, Canada Newswire said that “a small minority are shamefully using Nazi symbols, the Confederate flag, and misappropriating the Star of David to advance their political objectives.” Trudeau later used this information to condemn the truckers. However, multiple eyewitnesses reported that the protesters displaying the swastika compared vaccine mandates to Nazi policies. The truckers didn’t endorse the symbol but used it to express their opinions about Trudeau.

A few outliers waved the Confederate flag, but they were usually chased away by the other truckers. Thus, Trudeau dishonestly reversed the protesters’ intention and used it to smear them as far-right extremists.

If this sounds eerily familiar to you, you might be remembering what happened in Michigan. In May 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) decried lockdown protesters as being racist. She said that “the Confederate flags and nooses, the swastikas, the behavior that you’ve seen in all of the clips, is not representative of who we are in Michigan.” The only problem is that the protesters were comparing Whitmer’s policies to the dictatorship of the National Socialists. Yet, they were being portrayed as endorsing the very thing they were opposing.

Gina Carano

Gina Carano was one of the most popular actresses in the Star Wars universe but was fired for “antisemitic statements.” According to a Disney spokesperson, “her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Sounds awful, right? Except that Carano was comparing the political climate in the United States to that of the National Socialist era of the 1930s in Germany: “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

Somehow, expressing sympathy for what happened to the Jews is “antisemitic.” That may seem absurd, but that’s how gaslighting works.

Gaslighting

Once you start looking for it, you will find it everywhere. According to Dr. James Lindsay, this is no coincidence. His new book Race Marxism defines critical race theory as race Marxists calling everyone in the domain racist until they control it.

The ultimate gaslighting may have been to label the National Socialists as “far-right.” They were socialists who modeled themselves on the Marxist ideology, only changing it to be centered around race rather than the working class. That’s explicitly why they called themselves the National Socialist German Labor Party.

The neo-Marxian Frankfurt school was responsible for labeling them “far-right.” Incidentally, it is also the inventor of race Marxism. In practice, they stole all the ideas of the National Socialists, repackaged them in Marxist language, and called it critical race theory. How’s that for gaslighting?
