It was a whirlwind of activity this week as Americans in the heartland watched a small town mayor finally concede he was out of his depth, a billionaire abruptly end his attempted purchase of the Republic, and the frontrunner in the Democrat presidential primary announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate. Bless his heart.
How does anyone keep up with this group of wannabes? In a matter of days, Pete Buttigieg, Michael Bloomberg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) abandoned their campaigns for the White House. Predictably, most threw in and endorsed the establishment’s candidate.
Was the fix in for Biden?
Bernie Bros Panic
Deep in the Independent Bernie Sanders country, supporters of the frumpy socialist began to feel the familiar Bern of 2016 washing over their collective once-joyous faces. Sanders dominated in Nevada and California and led the charge throughout the early caucuses and primaries. But then pundits, new media heavy hitters, and famed Democratic strategists began to dismantle Bernie’s surging popularity. It appears the limousine liberal elite won’t allow Sanders to steal their power and believe throwing support behind Biden is their only option.
Jeremy Billiot of Louisiana was coherent enough through the tears of others after news that Warren called it quits. “She isn’t going to back Bernie,” He wrote. “We saw this play out in 2016. She will back Biden and will say it’s because we need an electable candidate.”
Other Bros believe Bernie is the last “progressive” they will ever see if he is beat by Biden. Yes, the goofy, forgetful, oft incoherent Biden. Sigh.
Biden’s World
Former Vice President Joe Biden had a wonderful week filled with family and adoring fans as he jetted about the country in search of votes. From butchering a line from the Declaration of Independence, “you know the thing,” to urging supporters to get out on “Super Thursday” and getting his wife mixed up with his sister, Biden had the media sweating and Trump guffawing.
A man in Chicago picked up on the drama surrounding the grinning Joe. Rich Wayne was most observant: “He has to be ‘steered around’ on the stage when he speaks, he sometimes forgets which way he is facing. Watch his wife next time he speaks. She guides him around. Almost feeling sorry for what his fellow swamp creatures are doing to him … including his wife, if she truly loved him, she would stop this.” And ears were pricked toward the possible motives of a Joe Biden nomination. Do the Democrats believe Trump is unbeatable and need a patsy to fall on his sword so that Democrats can rise in 2024 with a decent option? Or does the party elite hope to beat trump with a winning ticket, Joe at the helm but ready to exit stage left?
From St. Charles, MO, Juanita Wheeler offered, “Someone has already said this, but we had all better go vote for Trump if Biden chooses Michelle Obama as his VP and she accepts. If elected Joe will be out in a year or less for medical incompetency and she would be the Pres. Everyone better beware what they wish for instead of Bernie!”
Most Flyover folks had the same sentiment as Wendy Beauchamp Lannon from Greybull, WY: “Seriously, shouldn’t he have to pass some basic mental health testing to be qualified to run, arguably, the most powerful nation in the world? He is obviously losing it mentally, how can they let him run?”
And Mike Hobbs of New Mexico brought the conversation to an end, stating, “I have anxiety about a presidential candidate who cannot distinguish between his wife and his sister!”
Regardless, theories abound in flyover states this week.
