CNN’s Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter spoke with journalist David Zurawik and NPR’s David Folkenflik about President Trump’s connection to media mogul and Fox News founder, Rupert Murdoch. Fox is currently under investigation by the Justice Department over allegations that the network failed to disclose to shareholders the details of payments made to women who accused former CEO Roger Ailes of sexual harassment.
Naturally, the CNN panel took issue with the president’s friendship with Murdoch because of the investigation. While discussing a picture of Trump and Murdoch together at a party in New York, Stelter asked Zurawik if he believes the photograph was inappropriate. Zurawik answered:
Brian, it totally looks inappropriate. This is the style, though, of both of those men — in your face. I saw that and I was so angry when I saw it and I thought Donald Trump, this is what you ran on. The world was not going to be run with winks and nods and secret handshakes by the one percent. You were going to stand up for people, and here you are, hugging this guy and saying all these wonderful things about each other at this event.
It is not a surprise that they criticized the president for his connection to Rupert Murdoch. We are talking about CNN, after all. However – in typical establishment media fashion – they could not resist the temptation to take it a step further. Stelter brought up the infamous “tarmac meeting” between former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton during the presidential campaign:
It’s reminiscent a little bit of Bill Clinton on the tarmac with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. That was a huge controversy for good reason. Then you look at this and wonder if there’s something a little bit similar.
Leave it to CNN to equate the relationship between President Trump and Rupert Murdoch to Lynch’s alleged efforts to shield Hillary Clinton from the consequences of her email scandal. Apparently, Stelter and the gang believe that the alleged misdeeds of Fox News are just as earth-shattering as the fact that Hillary Clinton’s negligence put national security at risk.
So what did these intrepid “journalists” have to say about the meeting between Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton back in 2016 – before Trump was president?
A simple Google search covering the year of 2016 reveals that none of the participants in this particular discussion on Reliable Sources commented on the matter.
If there is evidence that the president is interceding on behalf of his friend, then it is a serious issue. However, while the photograph might not make for good optics, it does not indicate any wrongdoing on the part of President Trump or Rupert Murdoch. The same may not be true of Loretta Lynch. CNS News has reported that F.B.I. Director James Comey “believed Attorney General Loretta Lynch gave Hillary Clinton “political cover” during the presidential campaign.” As usual, the establishment media is blowing a negative story about President Trump out of proportion while ignoring the alleged misdeeds of the left. No wonder the American public no longer trusts them.
