As more information surfaces about Russian involvement in the presidential election, the establishment media’s “Russiagate” narrative seems to be losing steam. Since last year, the left has tried its darnedest to get the American public to believe that President Donald Trump colluded with the Kremlin.
After more than eight months of investigation, neither the Intelligence Community nor the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has discovered any evidence that proves there was a collaboration. As more time passes, the left’s dream of impeaching President Trump is becoming less likely to materialize.
Recently, CNN released a report stating that Russian agents attempted to infiltrate the Trump campaign. Russian intelligence wanted to recruit Trump aides like Carter Page to gain information into the inner workings of Trump’s team.
After the FBI had learned that the Kremlin might be trying to use Trump’s aides, they became interested in Mr. Page. The reason the FBI turned its attention on Mr. Page is that in July of 2016, he gave a speech at a university criticizing the United States’ approach to dealing with Russia. The FBI obtained a FISA warrant to monitor Mr. Page’s communications. Fox News reports:
The FBI obtained a court order last summer that granted them permission to monitor the communications of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The so-called FISA warrant was granted as part of an ongoing investigation into possible links between Russian officials and members of the Trump campaign, the paper reported.
If Mr. Page did communicate with operatives, it is possible that he was not aware that they were agents. So far there does not seem to be any evidence that Mr. Page was involved in any illegal activity with the Kremlin.
The revelation that intelligence agents attempted to infiltrate Trump’s campaign is another story that undermines the Trump/Russia narrative pushed by the left. If the president was working with the Russians to sway the outcome of the election, why would they attempt to spy on his campaign? There would be no reason for subterfuge if President Trump were in cahoots with these operatives. When you also consider President Trump’s recent clash with Vladimir Putin’s government over the Syria strike, it becomes harder to believe that there was collusion between the two.
It is clear that the Russian government attempted to interfere in our election. Many believe they did this to ensure that President Trump became the victor. Others think they wanted to cause Americans to lose trust in our electoral process.
Regardless of the reason, it is imperative the authorities focus on finding out what happened, and how we can prevent further interference. These are the types of issues the establishment media should cover. The left’s attempts to push this imagined scandal only serve to distract the American public from real threats.
