CNN is not too fond of rapper Kanye West. In fact, there aren’t very many on the left who don’t think that West is a boot-licking sellout because he supports President Trump.

In other news, snow is white.

On Don Lemon’s show, CNN Tonight, two guests mercilessly mocked the hip-hop artist for his refusal to toe the progressive line. No doubt their derision was prompted by West’s decision to meet with President Trump and discuss issues facing the black community.

CNN Guests Slam Kanye West

Lemon’s guests took issue with the rapper for agreeing to meet with the president, implying that West is uneducated and that Trump would somehow use the meeting as a photo-op. “Kanye West is what happens when negroes don’t read,” one of the guests said. “And we have this now, and now Donald Trump is going to use this and pervert it, and he’s gonna have somebody who can stand with him and take pictures.”

The female guest also slammed West, saying:

“Listen, black folks are about to trade Kanye West in the racial draft, okay? They’ve had it with him. And he’s an attention whore like the president. He’s all of a sudden now that model spokesperson; he’s the token negro of the Trump Administration? This is ridiculous. And no one should be taking Kanye West seriously; he clearly has issues; he’s already been hospitalized.”

Ouch. So now West is a “token negro,” who not only has mental issues, but doesn’t read? It appears that CNN doth protest too much. After all, if West is nothing more than a token, why do they feel the need to focus on him so often? This episode was not the first time they have gone after the artist when he stepped out of line.

What Are They So Afraid of?

The truth is that the progressive left must come after Kanye West. He is one of the most prominent artists in hip-hop history, and he has an enormous following, made up of people from many different backgrounds. They cannot allow him to gain a modicum of influence in the political arena. Sure, right now he is not very polished, and he has not demonstrated much of a grasp of the issues, but what happens when he starts learning?

It is likely that the left does not believe West’s visit to the White House was simply a photo-op, and they fear what could happen if West helps Trump make a positive difference in the lives of minorities. It is the same reason they attacked comedian Steve Harvey for meeting with the president and Dr. Ben Carson. If Trump enacted policies that benefited blacks – especially in the inner city – it would destroy their carefully crafted illusion that he is a virulent racist chomping at the bit to bring back Jim Crow.

It is for these reasons that CNN needs to mock West. They need to persuade all 16 of their remaining viewers to believe that West is a mental case who only wants media attention. Unfortunately for the progressives, West’s rejection of their ideology is an indicator that blacks may not be as fond of the left as they would like everyone to believe. What will they do when more minorities follow suit?
