If it seems like the leftist media are drowning in accusations of sexual abuse and inappropriate conduct, it’s because they are. The latest “falling star” is MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, a firm “anti-Trumper” who has clung onto his flagging career by becoming a paid attack dog.
This is the man who has called President Trump unfit for office because of his inability to “decipher reality,” and who famously said Barack Obama gave him “a thrill up my leg.” But perhaps it is Matthews’ own inability to deal with the modern world that has landed him in this mess.
Warzone Atmosphere
Two former NBC producers who claim to have worked closely with Matthews have come forward to describe their harrowing experiences of a volatile work environment made worse by constant demeaning and “verbal abuse.” The producers (both female), spoke with The Daily Caller on condition of anonymity stressing fear for their continued and present careers.
Their declarations talk of a work atmosphere akin to a war zone; of constant berating and sexually demeaning language. According to one of the producers:
“Sadly, I know other women who won’t even be an anonymous source regarding Chris [Matthews] because they’re that concerned about the door closing on career opportunities in media.”
Whilst discussing their personal experience of Matthews, one producer detailed the feeling and level of abuse they experienced:
“I would describe it as verbal abuse. The screaming is beyond the screaming you’ve ever heard. You just feel so under attack.”
“He did it so openly,” the producer stated. “It’s not just sexual harassment … what are you supposed to do when somebody is verbally abusing you and attacking you this way?”
Hypocrisy Uncovered
Matthews is, unfortunately, not an outlier in the hypocritical arena. He is, in fact, emblematic of a much broader problem with the leftist media and politics, which creates a workplace that demeans other human beings whilst claiming moral and intellectual superiority…All whilst cloaked in his untouchable veil of righteousness.
The sad reality is that the more these prominent faces talk down President Trump and America, the greater the fall they are setting themselves up for. And fall they will. The pride comes first, and then the inevitable.
This is not contained wholly on the left; there are just as many on the political right that are guilty of creating hostile work environments. Yet one thing that the more right-leaning folk cannot be accused of is massive hypocrisy.
Matthews’ Future
Will Chris Matthews be consigned to the scrap heap of history? Or will the left gather around in support whist desperately trying to point out similar behavior on the right?
As we have seen with other “culprits” such as Harvey Weinstein and Bill Clinton, the initial reaction will be to defend him from these “accusations,” until such time as it becomes politically expedient to jettison him. Will they wait around for the unmasking of a conservative commentator?
Yet we should be wary of laying the blame entirely on Chris Matthews the individual. Those who hired him, kept him in place and condoned his behavior are just as to blame. They knowingly allowed him to abuse these women yet kept quiet and complicit for personal gain.
It is the left that allows this culture to continue. They will sell the souls and the rights of anyone down the river if it will give them a political edge over the dreaded conservatives. But until they sort out their own hypocrisy trap, they’ll continue to lose.
