Joe Biden
President Joe Biden on Wednesday, April 28, gave a speech to a joint session of Congress that was more boring than Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reading the yellow pages. He took a rather dire tone, stating that when he took office, he “inherited a nation in crisis.” After droning on about the coronavirus pandemic, he repeated his usual milquetoast calls for unity.
Biden Mum on Migrants
At no point in his speech did President Biden even mention the situation at the southern border, nor did he outline his plans to address the issue. It was an exceedingly conspicuous omission, and it did not go unnoticed.
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) slammed Biden for failing to discuss a strategy for dealing with the surge of migrants at the southern border. Kelly, who represents a swing state located on the border, released a statement taking the president to task for ignoring the problem. He wrote:
“While I share President Biden’s urgency in fixing our broken immigration system, what I didn’t hear tonight was a plan to address the immediate crisis at the border, and I will continue holding this administration accountable to deliver the resources and staffing necessary for a humane, orderly process as we work to improve border security, support local economies, and fix our immigration system.”
During his speech, it seemed that Biden was talking around the migrant issue when he called on Congress to “end our exhausting war over immigration.”
“For more than 30 years, politicians have talked about immigration reform, and we’ve done nothing about it. It’s time to fix it,” he insisted. “Now look, if you don’t like my plan, let’s at least pass what we all agree on. Congress needs to pass legislation this year to finally secure protection for Dreamers, the young people who have only known America as their home.”
Some of these individuals wore T-shirts that read, “Biden, please let us in!” In interviews, some of these individuals indicated that they were making the trip because they believed this president would grant them entry into the U.S.
“Look, immigrants have done so much for America during this pandemic and throughout our history. The country supports immigration reform,” Biden said. “We should act. Let’s argue over it. Let’s debate over it. But let’s act.”
Biden Trying to Avoid Scrutiny?
Both Republicans and Democrats have noted that the migrant crisis has become a total and utter disaster. Leaders on both sides have criticized the president for his failure to develop and implement effective solutions. Members of the activist media pilloried the Biden administration for ordering Border Patrol not to speak with the press about the crisis.
The lack of transparency has also been a source of contention for those seeking information about the situation at the southern border. To put it simply, the White House has been lying about this matter since the beginning, and it is telling that the president chose not to mention it during his address to Congress.
This is yet another sign demonstrating that this White House has no real plan to fix the problem it caused. Vice President Kamala Harris has avoided deeper discussions about the issue despite being appointed Border Czar by the president. Unfortunately, if Biden’s omission of the issue is any indication, this crisis will continue to get worse.
