It seems the folks at Reebok have launched a side business in advising President Trump on what is appropriate to say to other leaders of the world. Reebok Tweeted a flowchart to 773,000 followers, ensuring their stance on Trump was reinforced and angering, again, the winning voters of the last election.
The silliness began after President Trump and First Lady Melania met with President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, in Paris. After their tour of the museums at Les Invalides, Trump complimented the 64-year-old Brigitte on her physique and then repeated his observation to her husband. No one appeared to twitch, snarl, or get the vapors as they said their goodbyes, but now, the compliment heard around the world is blowing up social media.
The flowchart explains that there are no acceptable times for anyone, much less the leader of the free world, to say, “You’re in such good shape…beautiful,” to anyone, in any situation, ever. In fact, the only occasion it is suitable, Reebok dictates, is when you “find a forgotten action figure, from your youth…in your parent’s basement.”
The Macrons, like America’s first family, have a twenty-five-year difference in age—in reverse. Emmanuel Macron is the younger at 39. Their marriage has raised eyebrows around the globe—Brigitte was Emmanuel’s high school teacher. As the rock group, Van Halen, once crooned, (in the 1980’s when Reebok’s were cool) he was “hot for teacher.”
As for the public stance that Reebok has taken in politics, they may need to get their own glass house in order before throwing rocks. Their website is filled with sexually suggestive photos of perfectly fit women, scantily clad, but wearing sneakers painting walls, or posing pantless in a new ad campaign—for shoes. Say it with me, “Hypocrisy, much?”
This sad, juvenile attempt to be one of the cool kids has instead demonstrated a complete lack of business prowess. The flowchart garnered a scant 10% response and angered as many people as it amused. But Twitterverse aside, the bullying on the left has reached a new low, and perhaps conservatives should take a page out of the looney left book and rise-up to protest and boycott what we deem irresponsible, ridiculous, and un-American.
